Carrots make me sick! Go for the money!

I don't get this post at all.
How can a new start demand anything?
Secondly, there are starry eyed young pilots dying to fly jets regardless of how much blood they have to donate to do it.

The REAL pilot shortage isn't here yet. The BIG retirment numbers don't kick in for another 5 years. Nothing will happen until there are mass cancellations due to no qualified FO's at the Regionals. The Mainline managers see this coming. Look for more drawdown of Regional feed, upgauging and more smaller narrow bodies at mainlines. There is a prevailing attitude in the Regional industry that "they can't replace us"....ummm, yes they can and will. In 2012 Regional feed at Delta flew 48% of our customers. By 2019 it will be down to 30%. This is a slow motion trainwreck unfolding before our eyes.
In the SHORT TERM...it's going to get worse before it gets better. Hey Millenials...**** & wait your turn. Sit down shut up & quit whining.
In the MEDIUM-Long term, every current RJ Captain will move on & up...your turn will come. I know you've waited 5-10 years already...just be a little more patient. Regional FO's, your wait us going to be MUCH shorter that the guys currently in the left seat. ALL of you are about to enjoy a GREAT career at a major. Current FO's at most majors have waited 12-18 years of narrow body
Reserve, furloughs and displacements before an upgrade to narrow body reserve Captain.....new hires today will have 5 year upgrades (barring a black swan event).

I believe Envoy is giving 2 7500. bonus' each year starting last week to every pilot. The "bonus" at other airlines is only going to new guys; to hell with the guys who are already there. The dam is starting to break and the salaries will start to go up. Only go to the quality airlines which are Comair and Skywest. Oh, make that Skywest. Which others would qualify as a quality regional?

You're right. It's about the love of flying. Because the view from my "office" window at FL350 beats looking at the inside of a cubicle anytime!
This is our "dream". How many people actually get to live out our "dream"? Any they pay us on top of it!

That's why a national seniority list is sorely needed. It would end all the in-fighting amongst the regionals. ALPA could give seniority numbers upon graduating an accredited 4 yr aviation university or upon getting your ATP for non-degreed pilots.

And some are naive enough to spend tens of thousands of dollars at so called "fast track" programs.

You don't need to get paid, you will work for free just for the flight time. And you will do it the next 7 to 25 years chasing those carrots.
Envoy just started paying a 15k bonus to go there and fly. Republic is offering 5k or 10k depending on the airplane. Blow___ will pay a 15k bonus if you tell them that is the lowest you will take and promise not to tell anyone. But that is short term and not very fair to the guys who are already there working for less.
If enough people will simply tell the regionals that they cannot start until march you will see them all go into panic mode and the bidding for talent will begin. Pay will go up fast once the first airline gives in and ups the pay. Once one falls they all will.
My daughter gets out of college next month and bidding has already started at 48k. A first year flight attendant makes more than a first year pilot now (they get hotel and per diem.). You are worth more than $23 per flight hour. The market value for a beginning pilot is over $45 per hour (without a training contract). The airlines have agreed not to compete with pay. An illegal and unspoken contract among them. Demand what you are worth and you will get it. Politely let them know that pay matters. They offer the carrot (flight time) and look at us like suckers and day after day we prove them correct. Tell them you need to get out of your parent's basement. Show some self respect. Dare to wait.
Don't sign a training contract. The rational for first year pay being low is to cover training costs, it was always your contribution. Now they want to double that up with a training contract. If they want a 20k training contract they had better be paying you 45k plus.
You are an airline pilot. Show self-respect, you deserve it. Look at what you had to do to get where you are. Who is going to pay your student loan? Remember that student loans are no longer dischargeable in bankruptcy.
When you choose an airline, email the ones you are saying no to, thank them for their consideration and explain that you have self-respect and just can't fly airplanes for 20k a year and commit yourself to a 20k training contract. Let them know your parents are upping the rent for the basement.
A new pilot in 1963 with 350 hours of flying time started at the same salary as pilots do now without adjusting for inflation but taking into account the better benefits.

This is the problem right here. Spoiled Millenials who want everything right now and refuse to wait. I know 2 new 20 something yr old pilots, 1 is 2 months into the job and the other is 7 months into the job. BOTH complain and rant all the time on Facebook about the job, the pay, UPGRADE TIMES (are you F'n kidding me?).
