Glad you guys are taking concessions so mainline can enjoy their large raises, profit sharing, and 16% 401k direct contribution.

ALPA has utterly failed the commuters.

Mainline management neutered ALPA by dividing the pilots into different regionals.

Do you really need to be told that?

I resent paying ALPA money since their priority is and always has been mainline. For mainline pilots to get the things they do, regional pilots have to get shoved down a little more.

It is what it is. The regional model only benefits the regional pilots insofar as it's a pathway to get to the majors. Sure it'd be nice to improve all of our contracts, but improvements are negligible at best and the priority should be getting to a major, not sitting right seat at a regional for 9 years for a slightly less bad contract. Then we too can make $48,000 a month while living in a crashpad (?).

The fact is a lot of regional pilots never make it to a major. Contract improvements need to be made at the regional level so that when someone gets stuck at a regional (as the majority of pilots will) they can live a comfortable life. This won't happen until the pilot shortage really manifests, and even then I don't see regional pilots having the unity to accomplish that goal. The hope of a chance to make it to a major, no matter how small, is enough for a lot of guys to accept low pay and qol.

There's an apparent pilot shortage, unprecedented retirements at the majors, substantially less military guys transitioning over, significant increases in domestic and global air travel, and bigger barriers than ever preventing new guys from entering the field.

I think there's something wrong if you can't make it to a major/legacy in the next 15 years.

The majority of hires thus far have been military, minorities, and interns. I have yet to see a large number of average regional pilots hired and I doubt I will. Any person who asks me about getting in to this career I tell them join the military or get an internship, going in as a regional pilot is foolish and puts you at a disadvantage.

How does anyone have time for an internship when they also have a flying job?

You mentioned new-hires had been interns. How do you intern at Delta if you're a regional or military pilot? Or, you're saying they had been college interns previously?

Also, I've seen this affirmative action thing brought up before; is that some sort of government enforced quota carriers have to meet, or do they just want to look equal opportunity for PR purposes?

Edit: sorry for my edits.

ALPA neutered themselves. Instead of having a min pay/contract level for ALPA carriers, they allowed the same process that existed at the majors to happen at the commuters. Only, they were idiots because only an idiot would think that the business model was the same.

Standard ALPA procedure is 70% of CA wages to be paid to the F/O. The regionals are NO WHERE near that level. They are down around 35%-40%.

The conspiracy theorist in me says ALPA doesn't care, because the less they pay the commuters the more mainline guys can make.
