Oops. Didn't look closely.
Here's the BLS info on airline pilots - Airline and Commercial Pilots : Occupational Outlook Handbook: : U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
Less rosy than the paper.

I fundamentally disagree with the scam that is a job fair, I refused to attend one before I decided to quit this career and I wouldn't have attended one if I had stuck to it. Job fairs are held on weekends so if you're not senior you can't attend. The most prestigious job fairs are for organizations I am not a member of as a white male, and I think it's absolutely assanine how many white males go to those. Finally I'm a regional FO and I'm supposed to drop a few hundred just to hand someone my resume?
I do volunteer work where I live, I have a 4 year degree, and I update my apps weekly. My total time is nowhere near 12,000 and I wouldn't have been there for another 12 years at least. I checked all the boxes I could, including getting recommendations from a few guys at all the majors, to no avail. I gave it a shot, I would have liked to fly at a major just to see what it was like compared to a regional, but I guess it wasn't in the cards. Sorry for being bitter, I'm glad for my health and sanity I'm quitting this career.

That's nice... I wasn't alive to fly in Vietnam, and didn't meet the vision requirements to fly in Iraq/Afghanistan... The check airman selection is very selective and even more so political at my company... most of us will never get the chance to have LCA next to our names. Ah the mystical Job Fair... how much is the company being paid in kickbacks to require this attendance before an interview? That's as bad if not worse than SWA and the B737 type.
I'm sorry you feel the way you do about the job fairs, but I can tell you from my experience, that it made a huge difference. I could go into details, but I'd bore (and probably depress) you.
The advice about making yourself "interesting" is also prudent--esp. if you get to spend time with a recruiter at a (wait for it) job fair.
Think of it this way: if the airline is taking applications from the resumes they collect at job fairs (and they all are), and you don't go, you're helping your buddies get one step closer to getting an interview. But if you go, you are one step closer to getting an interview than your friends that stay home.

The fellow that flew in Viet Nam did not fly in the war--none of those guys are left (it's been almost 40 years since the fall of Saigon). He flew RJs for a Vietnamese airline.

To the Delta trainer guy that's some good info, thanks for sharing.

I had back to back 150 hour month this year. It was the perfect storm and all the stars aligned just right. Can't imagine how one does 212, especially as a Capt?

Check out Denny Crane's posts on the L&G thread the last couple days. He explains how he pulled off that moonshot.
