I love reading / watching these.

I like how American says they'll just give Eagles flying to another carrier, then it says 11 out of the 12 regionals didn't meet their hiring targets. I guess they'll just give the flying to the one that did!

Remember what happens though if Eagle shuts down...suddenly there's a couple more qualified pilots looking for jobs. I'm sure a few will undoubtedly leave the industry, some will likely be picked up by a major, LCC, or foreign carrier and the rest (likely majority) will have to make a move to whatever regionals are hiring....if the regional feed starts going away, it might be good long term, but I'd expect some short term pain as those pilots are absorbed into other operations...and revert back to first year pay

Because adding an "airlines" to American Eagle is just too hard? Perhaps "a feeder for American?" Or does that not get the chicks as well?

A lot of them. My friend works for NYC sanitation. They are on call during snow storms and other major events (hurricanes, 9/11, etc) and frequently get called in to work 12+ hours shifts for days on end doing clean up.

Pilots have challenges to their jobs - but at the same time some pilots feel the need to really talk up those challenges with these 'who else has to....' types of comments. Other jobs have challenges. It isn't just the airline industry.

Count me as part of the qual'd pilots who wont apply for due to low wages. I simply cannot afford to work at a regional. I make more flying part time for my reserve unit and being a check airman at a local college. Until wages increase at the regional level, I'll find other flying opportunities that I can make a living from.

Were they on overtime/premium pay?

My garbage man never leaves the truck. It has this automated arm that picks up the bin and dumps it for him.

Timco predicts it will lose 40% of its aviation maintenance technicians in the next few years. These are the guys airlines contract out to who do the heavy checks. They recognize this and are working to ensure their pipeline is full.
