President/CEO in the Jumpseat
#21
Paul Foley (what did he do?) would ride in the J/S during his weekly commute between his home in HPN and MSP.
One night while riding on the AVRO, the weather tanked in HPN and they ended up diverting to either LGA or JFK and Paul was not silent about his displeasure of being so inconvenienced. He was finally reminded about sterile cockpit rules and told in no uncertain terms to shut his pie hole as he was starting to have a bit of a tantrum about it.
After the flight, the Captain pulled him aside and continued the lecture about sterile cockpit as well as PIC authority.

I am just curious if the president/CEO of your airline rides in the jumpseat when they travel. Chip Childs (President Skywest Airlines) seems to always ride up front whenever he is traveling on Skywest even if the back is empty. I hear Jerry Atkin does as well. I recently had Chip up front on our flight and although you can hear the salesman in his voice, I appreciated him putting himself out there to answer our questions and talk about the operation.
Does this happen with Bedford/Anderson/Smisek/Ornstein etc...?

Not true (ASA side), I know some guys who had him on the J/S a few years ago on the ASA side. He also came to our old crew loundge on C in AtL to meet the pilots. He wasn't very welcomed, I was there on that day and remember guys were asking him a lot of unpleasant questions about ASA and SKYW coming together. The man's face was red, I could tell he wasn't very happy to be there.

Not if he was on a regional JS! I don't know why any CEO deserves any praise. They are the real problem in this industry yet we love to fight amongst ourselves and denigrate our fellow airmen while RA and other CEO are laughing at us on the way to the bank!

He came into our class when I was there for training recently and actually had nothing but good things to say about ASA/XJT and the direction the company is going when people questioned him.
You're the first person I've ever seen say anything negative about Jerry.
