Those are exceedingly few, and would likely jump on the opportunity if given it... even the oldest guy in my newhire class at 9E has called me asking about how to get an interview, and he only has 8 years left.
If they are content, it's out of ignorance mostly.. They are probably just saying that to try to act like they are fine being a lifer. All 9E bases are DL bases, and I'm bottom lineholder on the 320 in ATL this month...I have 19 days off (no vacation days) and am making way more than any 9E captain. I've been home for every milestone of my son.

I am 30 years old but I'm only giving the whole mainline dream 3 more years, I figure after 3 there will be enough guys hired younger or of my same age hired that my career prospects will not be bright. In my case though I won't be hanging on to the industry at a regional but rather getting a job outside the industry. I can totally see how guys made a career of the regionals, timing and age has made the majors unattractive for alot of guys.

Will it happen? Who knows. I tend to think not.
I'd say your window for a decent major career is a lot larger than three years.

Yeah 32, thanks. I think 14 days off in this job isn't enough, but really, less than 21 days off is unacceptable? Most jobs give you 8 to 10 days off. Have you ever done the monday thru friday with the daily commute? They can have it, I'll take the 14 days off.

I realize everyone has different priorities though I was just making a point to the Delta guy that it is true not everyone wants to go mainline if the circumstances aren't ideal.

Congratulations on getting to Delta at a good time. Alot of people become regional lifers because they were not as fortunate as you. That mainline job looks alot less rosy when you're staring at the back end of a hiring wave.

Someone hired tomorrow at the age of 33 would retire at around 300 on an 11,000 pilot list. If that's not good enough for you, whatever. Others will gladly take your place while you reduce your career earnings by around 2 million dollars.

Short memory...!
I, uh.... wow. The average age of people hired at a legacy is around 35-40.
