Default Food for thought for Regional Pilots

THINGS THAT GIVE REGIONAL PILOTS A BAD NAME...

I was in the 767 jumpseat with UAL today and the captain made a wise observation:

"Some regional guy told me that flying an RJ was better than his job before. He worked in a factory before he was a pilot."

"When I was young, I considered either being a pilot or a doctor and those two were comparable. I chose to be a pilot because this was a respectable profession. Now, RJ pilots compare it to factory work. That is what fuels the race to the bottom."

Food for thought....

That's because he had no ambition to be a doctor. Being a pilot is still better than being a doctor. To be a successful pilot it takes 100k and a few years of making nothing. To be a successful pilot it takes 250-500k and half your life.

P.S. I just went to a Dr. in mexico for $10. He did a thurough examination of my cough, check my bloodpressure, gave me an overall physical and then I paid another $40 for three perscriptions I asked him for. I guess I robbed some overpriced american doctor and his rich pharmaceutical company of a few hundred bucks.

Good one moron....

Flying a plane is better than stamping plastic. But some idiot probably realized that you can go from nothing to airline pilot in 18 moths and be driving your shiny RJ around and it'd take 10 years to become a doctor.

Nice observation though.

On a lighter note---I heard a guy say that being a pilot was better than being stuck in an office. Food for thought (sarcasm)

Factory worker and Pilot are both union oriented jobs, and the pay is comparable. Factory worker is slightly better in that you get weekends and holidays off, and if you work a weekend, you get O.T.

I hasn't been a respectable profession since people were allowed to wear flip flops and tank tops for the trip to florida. It hasn't been a respectable profession since 50 seat aircraft were allowed to fly from one major city to the next. Who gave that up?

Oh get off it STILL GROUNDED All your posts lately seem to railing on RJ drivers for flying 2+ hour legs between "big cities". It's not like the pilots decided when and where to fly their little shiny jet. Just because you're jealous of the guys blasting off to places cooler than Bumfunck, KS doesn't mean you need to blame RJ drivers. Open your eyes, domestic air travel in this country is moving towards smaller airplanes flying more frequently to more destinations. Right behind price, most air travelers choose who they fly with based on schedule. The airlines are figuring out that its better business to fly 6-8 RJs a day from A to B instead of 2-3 737s. Even international air travel is going that way. Now you have 737s and 757s flying to far more destinations more frequently whereas before you used to have 3-4 767/747/777s flying to just a few destinations. The industry is evolving, thats just the way it is.

Only a matter of time before a 'Long-RJ' replaces a 777 on the routes...
