You are right, though. You can't just walk into a fast food place etc and be like "I want to be a manager" and get it.
Actually you can if you have some kind degree. Just finished my MBA and I get emails from Walmart, etc all the time about coming in for management openings. Most just require a college degree, not any kind of experience. Some require a business management degree. Friend of mine had a degree in History and is in management at Walmart. He was hired straight into management with no retail background whatsoever.

Yes you can be a manager with a college degree and with little/no experience depending on company. Go to McDonalds corporate website for manager jobs throughout the country. BK can work as well.

Yes they may make more but it's not easy to get the job as you think.
Well, the difference is that working for a few years in fast food and getting a degree in your off time really does open up some opportunity to work into management. If you're an airline pilot, a degree doesn't mean squat and you don't really have much opportunity to "advance" and stand out. Lots of stories out there about guys that worked their way up and ended up owning one or more stores.

Grew up with a guy and his parents owned 4 McD's. For his 18th birthday they gave him one of the stores. I know money isn't everything, but he'll never have to worry about it anymore. You know, one less thing?

Thats the difference between those pilots who are playing checkers versus those pilots who are playing chess. You sound like a pilot playing checkers, believing that a degree doesn't mean squat, and probably not furthering yourself. Those pilots playing chess have degrees in good fields, are learning and/or working towards a masters, and if they want some day they can advance to something more than just a line pilot. For example, it opens up opprtunities in management while still getting to fly once in a while.

So you fly an Airbus but somehow can't stay away from the Pinnacle threads, you are tool... You used to even come and hang out by their crew rooms showing off your VA uniform. At Eagle Lounge you are always getting smacked with your Cherooke handle. Instead you should be helping your Pinnacle folks with getting hired at VA.
