This opens up the door for those who would not have qualified, among which are some of the worst pilots I've ever flown with.

To me (on this side of the screen) it reads that even if they had college degrees some of the 9E pilots are the worst pilots you've ever flown with. Your other posts aren't much better sounding about how "qualified" you think they are. I still say you're a runner up for TOTD.

If they changed the requirement for everyone, that is a whole different story.

To which I say, why didn't you do something about them being "some of the worst pilots you've ever seen" before you found out they might be sitting next to you? You let "some of the worst pilot's you've ever seen" continue to fly around our passengers and families and it's only become a problem because of a $100,000 piece of paper?

There are so many facets to this thing.
First, you have Delta ditching their vaunted interview process. OK, but NW guys didn't go through it, nor did the CPS or XJ flows.
But then DL did away with the degree requirement, for 9E only. Their prerogative, I guess, but I can see how that rubs Delta guys the wrong way when they put in the hard work to get it.
And then there's the fact that they did it behind the MEC's back. "None of your business," I guess. Wait, I thought constructive engagement was supposed to prevent that sort of thing?
And then, as Bar has been pointing out, there's the extremely dangerous precedent of DAL entering into a contract with another pilot group to scope DAL pilots off of certain equipment.
I think the worst aspect of this that hasn't really been focused on is the fact that DAL used the promise of pilot jobs as a carrot to bribe regional pilots into voting for an industry-wrecking concessionary contract. Your jobs, which you worked your butts off for, have become commoditized as just another tool for Ed Bastian to ensure he never misses a good night's sleep again. Here's a question: what can't DAL get regional pilots to do for the promise of a mainline job?
Yet there is absolute silence from DALPA and ALPA-National on this. The only indication of their reaction is the fact that their usual attack dogs are down here trying to make it seem like this is no big deal and is simply a matter of DAL exercising their prerogative to hire who they want.
Those hoping Lee Moak doesn't sign this contract will be sorely disappointed...it's his baby. This debacle represents the crowning achievement of Moakism.

I think we could 'fix this' real quick, if both the DAL and PCL pilot groups filed for single carrier status, put them on our list, working under our contract and pay them our rates.
Let's see how much sleep Ed loses over that!

I know I'm not the only one who feels that way. There are a lot of great pilots at DCI carriers, I understand. Conversely, there are a considerable number of unsafe pilots. Why take the chance?

I don't accept your premise. I don't let my family fly on DCI carriers. Ever. Even if it means driving or taking the train.

I understand your feeling. I feel the same way about those DC-9's. They are way too old to be safe, as well as the old captains that fly them, inches from heart attacks....why take the chance?
