I heard that an email went out today about AE hiring... anyone get it?

I got this today.
American Eagle Airlines would like to wish you a Happy New Year and share some great news about our airline. We are currently hiring and plan to bring on over 600 new pilots in 2013! With the flow of our senior pilots to American Airlines and increased attrition to major carriers, we are looking for qualified pilots immediately. In addition, new flight time and duty time regulations going into effect in 2014 will increase the number of pilots needed even further. We are hiring into the EMB-145 series and the CRJ-700 aircraft. We are also hiring into all of our Turbo-Jet bases which are Chicago-O’hare (ORD), New York (JFK & LGA), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), and Miami (MIA).
With American Airlines planning to hire 2500 pilots over the next 5 years, American Eagle is expecting approximately half of our pilot list to flow to American in the next 5 years. This movement will create faster career progression for new American Eagle pilots. Pilots leaving for other major carriers will further accelerate American Eagle pilots’ career progression.
We would also like to let you know that American Eagle is currently offering a new hire bonus of $5,000. This bonus is paid to new pilots just prior to the start of training and requires a two year agreement with American Eagle. The bonus and associated agreement are optional but offered as an added incentive to join the American Eagle team.
If you are interested in a pilot position with American Eagle Airlines, update your AirlineApps profile with the most current information and be sure to update the American Eagle addendum as well. Once you have updated your profile, email us at [email protected]. Our minimum flight time requirements are the ATP minimum hour requirements as stated in 61.159. A completed ATP written exam is required prior to starting new hire pilot training.
All of us in Pilot Recruitment are line pilots and would be happy to answer your questions.
We look forward to hearing from you!

No worries. It comes straight from the union. You can ask any rep or P2P volunteer. The company knows they are having issues getting new hires. They also know that other regionals are having the same problem. They know they have to sweeten the pot to bring in the smaller pool of qualified people that are left or even entice folks to leave other regionals to come here.

Most people I know who want to come to eagle say "Yeah Id love to work for Eagle but who knows whats going to be left in a year or two."

Totally random, I applied to AE in the spring of 2007 and yesterday they sent me an email requesting that I update my times. How weird.

No the "astronaut physical" has been done away with a few years back. Now after you are given a offer, you do a hearing test and pee test with AA medical. Also I have been told the hearing test isn't a "test" a it is more just an indication of your hearing ability. One rumor was to monitor hearing degradation over the years.

I dont think money is really going to do it. As you said, they have been to other airlines and compared to what they were making, a one time 10 or even 20K bonus will not be enough to attract them. What they can actually do to attract people is give some incentive to come and stay - a fleet plan, a clear direction, indication of growth and stability. Right now it just seems like we are wallowing in stagnation with our flying being given out, a possible divestiture which seems to only be good for our ground handling services, and a parent company that all but certainly will merge with USAir.

I think Eagle will be fine but it would be nice to know what new airplanes we are getting. They have already come out and said we are getting new planes, just haven't said which ones.
