Can't really blame the guy for being disgruntled sitting in the right seat for the better part of a decade. With that said, it looks like there is a real shortage looming and it should get better for us as a pilot group. I don't understand why some regional unions are allowing their pilot group to take concessions, when we have the power for the first time in a long time.
Bzzt, you will probably be at a major or LCC within 5 years, unless you have some serious skeletons in your closet. I would bet money on it.

I know were the kid is coming from too. However, the results are not and will not be the same for everyone. I've been in that same seat for six years now and I'm just as ****ed off. But I knew to always expect the worst therefore, nothing surprises me. I tell folks who may want to come here what to expect and how things are. I don't tell not to come here because it's their decision to make. I do tell them to do their homework on all the regionals. It is a fact that our corner of the industry sucks. But hey, that's the way it is and is going to be...forever I dare to say.
Again results vary from person to person.

Here I'll be "helpful":
Jr Bases: MIA, NY keep in mind we're shrinking so your relative seniority once hired will move tremendously slowly. With ~10 hired a month you probably will not be able to change bases for an extended period of time.
You are correct on this one!
Interview: Don't lie on airlineapps and don't have a messed up logbook.
You are correct again, doing a good job so far!
Training: One of the least forgiving in the regional industry. We still do actual check rides unlike most other US airlines. If you need extra time chances are you won't get it. Remember a 121 bust will severely hamper the already rare career progression you may desire.
Not correct, I'm new at Eagle. My class had 8 new hires. All passed training including a couple that needed extra sim time Most of my class had General Aviation experience only.
Commuting: Can't do it. A lot of our trips are 7am shows with 9pm finishes. If you're ever able to get some seniority you may be able to hold a late start/late finish or early start/early finish and be able to commute either the front or back end of your trip. Depending on where you're commuting from your options may be severely limited.
Wrong again: I commuted to DFW on reserve, most of the time I had to commute the day before but was always able to get home on the same day I was done.
Upgrade time: Currently 7-8 years. This is always subject to change but remember Eagle is shrinking. Your relative seniority will move very slowly if at all. We haven't had a vacancy bid in quite awhile even though CAs are flowing to AA and senior FOs have been going to Spirit, VA, and JB.
This could change to the better or worst tomorrow.
Conclusion: Unless you live in a base that only AE has I do not recommend anyone come here. If you want a reliable regional job with good QOL and contract I recommend Skywest. If you want to buy a lottery ticket and hope for that 1% mainline job go to Compass for the quick upgrade.

I'm with you, however. I think that if he puts forth heavy effort, and tries to show a positive attitude when interviewing, he'll get on with a LCC or Legacy sooner than later.
Yes, it may not be exactly to his plan to be a middle of the pack to senior widebody FO within a few short years, but if he still wants to work in this industry at the LCC or Legacy level, I think it's ultimately going to be up to him.

55 Upgrades.
20 JFK CRJ and 35 DFW ERJ
Come on RJ Pilot and BZZT... do you best to spin this!
I predict the... "upgrade just to downgrade" from BZZT and RJ Pilot.... hmmm, he has been exceptionally weak recently with his spin so I'll just go with the "Is that it?"

I don't really understand the advice of "working hard" to get to a legacy. All you can do is update your resume, I guess I can press my computer keys harder. But you're right, I cannot attain my original career goals unless I'm hired in the next year or so, and I am hedging my bets as I don't expect to get hired in that time frame.

200+ people left since the last vacancy. Eagle hired what? 50 replacements. 55 upgrades migh not even move down the upgrade time at all if senior senior FOs that deferred previously decide to take the opportunity now.

Excellent news. A little on the small side yeah, but that is still movement in my book and in the right direction.

55 is a big # for a Captain vacancy at Eagle.. Anybody that has been here for any reasonable amount of time would realize this.. What did you guys expect? 450 upgrades in one vacancy? Lol.. It will go down to April/May 2007 probably for JFK CRJ CA.
