Yeah, having a choice to join a union is a really bad thing.

I strongly disagree. There is no amount of determination or work ethic that can guarantee anyone in any career field a job or career right now.

I haven't heard that from an entire generation, sorry.

It seems the prevailing attitude is one that un or underemployed people can kiss their @$$ and quit whining? I know a girl that graduated Harvard Law and has never once been able to secure a job beyond waitressing. Most jobs she applies for she is well considered, along with 5,000 other applicants. I guess she is a whiner from an entitlement generation.
You didn't say it our right, but are implying it when you keep on complaining about not being guaranteed a job or successful career.

Maybe you missed the whole occupy "movement" but it wasn't a bunch of retired folks making a bunch of noise.

A lot of people think that just having an ivy league education is the golden ticket to a good job making a lot of money but it isn't. You have to have more on your resume than just a fancy piece of paper. I'm sure if she was willing to move anywhere in the country she would be able to find something.

There never was such a guarantee in the past either. Circumstances beyond our control have always threatened to sabotage pilots' career prospects, even during aviation's "golden age". That's why having a backup plan has always been so important.

You can see things however you choose to see them, and that includes what I'm implying. I've said all along it will be quite a bit more difficult for people to become pilots in a great recession for many reasons. A pilot shortage is a myth. It was supposed to start some time ago.

There were people of all ages taking part.

I guess you know all about that too. Man, I had no idea how well-rounded you were. You went to an ivy league school? Why don't you give her a call and tell her these gems? Here she was thinking if she worked as hard as she could, went to a good school and paid for the best education she could, then applied all over the country and travelled extensively, that she might be able to be employed.

I had no idea that she was a complete idiot. Here I was just thinking you'll disagree with anything I say, but you actually have a message here, and it must get out. 'Everyone is an idiot but me' seems to be your message. Write a book, get on the national news, become a celebrity while you still know what's best for everyone, ivy league scholars and 747 captains included.

If you'd like, good sir, I can put you on the phone with her so you can tell her directly how ignorant she is.

I'm very sorry for having offended you, Red. I had no idea you had such solid advice and experience. I'll conceded this whole argument to you and bow out.

You never offended me, but you are good at putting words in my mouth. Good luck with your career and life with your woe is me attitude.

Is that supposed to hurt my feelings? I would say the feeling is mutual, but I don't know enough about you or know you personally to make such a judgement.
