Default American Eagle Medical

Just got the email today, American Eagle offered me an interview. Still havent heard back from Colgan. Anyways, very excited, however, what is the physical at Eagle like? One gouge said it was all day. Somewhat nervous about being proded for 8 hours. Thanks!

Ever seen "The Right Stuff" or a show on the History Channel about what the original Mercury astronauts went through before the first manned space flight? Its like that.

FFB hit the nail on the head.

I was in there with only one other applicant. We started at 7am and finished at 2:30. The nurse commented "Wow, we've never finished so early before."

Not difficult, just long. Bring a newspaper.

you would think if there so desperate for pilots overtheir they would relax their insane medical standards wouldnt you?

i guess airline managment just doesnt have common sense

like that whole sell your product for more than what it costs you to make it deal if you wanna stay outta the red, there still trying to figure out that one

yep long day, full physical. you fast for 12 hours the night before without any food. long medical questionaire so know your family history beforehand... you give two urine samples, they take 3 viles of blood to test for cholesterol, blood cell count, etc. full hearing test, vision test so bring your glasses if you have them - no contacts. they strap all this stuff to you and give you an EKG. I think thats all of it... God help you at eagle

Most of the time spent at AA Medical is simply waiting around. They do the typical stuff like weight, height, BP, pee in the cup, take blood, turn your head and caugh, reflex test (rubber hammer on knee thing), and vision test. They do not go as$ spilunking so no finger wave to worry about. There also is no longer a cog test which was a bunch of bull sh!t anyway. You also get to go into a sound booth and do a hearing test. I think that is about it, pretty easy but like I said just a bunch of waiting around. If you are remotely healthy you will pass.

Maybe the physical has to do with the fact that most AA pilots used to be military and see the physical as a "right of passage". Seems to me like a waste of money on AA's part. But if they would rather pay docs and nurses to give you a physical for which you already hold a medical, I guess that's their prerogative.

It is quit a bit more invasive than an FAA medical. At least two people from my interview group failed the physical that day.

If you have any minor medical problems or history of problems, you will be in trouble. They will also hold you to a higher vision standard than the FAA.

My suspicion on this is that they are doing what every big employer in the US would like to do...weed out any employee who might have health issues in the future. They can get away with this because of the public perceptions regarding pilot health and the fact that they are based in Texas. They would not be able to pull this stuff in most other states.
