I got mine in Dtw but the pink boutique didn't sell them, they are in the chief pilots office for some reason.

Piedmont airlines made it clear last year that pink ties for the month of October are not approved, and those wearing them would be reprimanded. This year, you can purchase one through the company store, and Airways is playing the PR up big time. I wonder how much of the proceeds actually go to support breast cancer, and how much Airways' pockets. I'm confident that if Piedmont could cure cancer, but it would cost them $100, they wouldn't do it.

So, to answer the OP . . . Even though buying the "company approved" tie from the company store (the company that is willing to suspend me for supporting breast cancer tastefully), goes against everything I stand for, I broke down and bought one from them for the cause.

My old high school councilor who was a great guy died from breast cancer so I help his son promote now. But being an airline pilot, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to kid a pax.

This guy in the terminal asked "What's with all the pink ties for?" I said "it's pilots who are part of the gay pilot's association". He just looked at me and said, "Oh, okay." The really funny part is that sometime later this month, either while watching football or Whatever. He's gonna figure it out and remember me..

There are many ways to contribute to so many different medical charities. Pink gets the big PR push and thus it wins out. Whomever has the most money and clout controls the media etc etc. Just the way it works.

I started wearing my tie in September. When I was in the CPO getting my ipad passwords reset, I was confronted and told I was a month early. When I told them my mom had just had the surgery two days earlier, they COMMENDED for wearing the tie for her and immediately approved of it. Yep, definitely something to support...............and the passengers appreciate it too. BTW, I'll be wearing green and red epaulets come December................a NWA pilot with stomach cancers' wife started making them in his remembrance, and the proceeds go to help kids with secondary education.
