Just my opinion
I could be wrong, but the purpose of the pink tie is, you buy one each year and the money goes towards the foundation. This is why I've been told from a few Delta employee.

One wears it because they bought it, and the money went towards research to cure it.

I think people donating money is fine. If they give out pink ties, that's fine too. As I said, I don't think wearing a tie raises awareness of breast cancer.

How would volunteering at a clinic ( not a bad idea) help awareness more? The people who are there clearly already have a good idea about it. When an airline like Bid D is putting out ads and having crews donate/support the cause it brings the subject to light for people who most of the time do not even think about it.

I disagree. If pilots/male flight attendants are wearing a pink tie, and female flight attendants are wearing pink dresses, and pink lemonade is being sold in the cabin it's guaranteed that a passenger will ask "Why is the crew wearing pink?" The answer in short would be "For Breast cancer awareness month". Awareness raised.

I've had passengers thank me for wearing my pink tie.

People are sheep. We've been conditioned to think that breast cancer is the most deserving of our attention and efforts. It's definitely a noble cause, but why is it more important than the hundreds of other types of cancer?
