Pinnacle Reveals Tenuous Nature ... (Article)

I guess to each his own. To me, it sounded a little arrogant for a guy making $59/hr as a 3-rd yr RJ Captain putting Spirit, VA, and JetBlue down because he was 'holding out' for [fill in the blank]. In fact, the majority of pilots "holding out" are still holding out, with no calls from anyone. Yes, because Fedex and Delta are just going hire them on a silver platter. Classic example is the MEM club that have stated numerous times it's either Fedex or stay at Pinnacle for good. It'll be interesting to see what happens when MEM closes.

We all have our own reason to stay or leave. I choose the times with my kids before any job, that's why I stayed put the last couple of years. Money, and a window to move on come and go. I was there for both of kids first step, the first time they said "Dada" once those are gone I'll never get that back. I guess that makes me arrogant too for staying put the last few years because my family is more important.

I'm sorry, laughing because you have no idea who mooney is. He would have been stupid to leave. I'd say that to his face. You really don't understand more than "me, me, I" do you?
If you knew who that was you may tuck your ego, quickly. If you knew his wife was the openly said "sugar momma" with a little one who gets tucked in every night by daddy you may see the money just puts gas in the truck. Once again, you are viewing everyone through only your eyes without knowing what is really going on. Your mind may explode to know that many guys have side businesses that make far more than their flying jobs at 9E.
Enjoy VA, and move on.
Feel free to flame, I'll still wish you the best because you only know enough to keep the rest entertained.

At this point, I don't think anyone would be stupid to leave Pinnacle, especially if those terms are implemented from the 1113 filing. I don't know who Mooney is but if he has a side business and a suga momma, then that's a good position to be in. I respect you simply for the fact you put your name here every time when you post. Everyone else stays anonymous, so it's easier for insults to fly around. You'd be surprised as to the PMs I get, and of course no one ever reveals their identity.

So, is Delta a second choice carrier now?

I thought you were a 2008 FO? Whatever schedule you have now, you could easily hold within a few months at Spirit and VA. In my case, one month of reserve before jumping into a 17 day off line. You'd be surprised how quickly QOL can come at a growing airline. I wish you the best though. At least you're honest and saying your family matters and comes first. I was talking about guys who were openly saying they were basically 'above' flying at a place like NK, VX, or JB.

One thing your argument is forgetting is that most senior guys are not single or newly married 20 somethings without kids that can just contract away on the far side of the world. Do that when you are married with kids, and you will soon find that after the divorce you have less take home pay than a year 1 FO. Most senior guys I know, myself included, don't have to fly so bad that we would want, need or take an overseas gig. There are other options out there.
Mooney, even after 9/11, up to 2008, every single airline was hiring except American. Some of the biggest hiring was done by LCCs. JetBlue was hiring tons and constantly for their growth. Spirit was also hiring a good amount, as was VA. I have to say, the majority of guys I flew with openly said they were 'holding out' for a bigger carrier/legacy airline/Fedex/UPS. There wasn't much interest in the LCCs. Those that wanted to go to those LCCs did escape to them, for the most part. Only now once 9E is totally screwed did people finally hit the eject-to-any-airline button. In the words of one Captain, "I haven't spent 8 years here to end up at a place like Spirit or VA." [No joke, that was an actual quote, pre-bankruptcy, in January before I left].
Exactly. Why you need to write 20 pages of posts criticizing other pilot's decisions is beyond be. I don't care if you went to Virgin, Gojet or Nepal. I would have said "best of luck to you" and that's it. Not a 20 page essay of "that is stupid" because of the political structure and seasonal mountain climbing business in Nepal, or whatever the case may be where you went.
I, along with many others, have been saying this for years. I say I won't move to China to break up my family, then get knocked for it. Or get accused of "hogging a seat" by those entitled. Or can't get hired because I have "too many DUI's and busted checkrides or must be some skeleton in the closet" from the me me me peanut gallery. My QOL and family come first, not yours. Seriously Shy, we don't care what you think about our career decisions. Apparently you can't sleep at night without knowing you "made better career decisions" (in your eyes) than someone else, who you do not even know, and feel the need to state that to the world before you tuck yourself in. Take your own advice..."to each his own" and don't worry about my career, I'll do just fine whatever it is thanks!
Higney saucer soon! thx
