Wrong. A miracle would have to happen for me to stick around. I'm fairly young enough to change careers and I am currently looking at getting out. This industry has gotten so bad that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. I'm going on furlough number 3 and I've only been flying for the airlines for a little under 5 years. Good luck to you too, I sincerely mean that.

While it may be the plan to shift flying back to mainline, it's simply all talk at this time. Now I'm hearing that Delta possibly won't hire at all next year. When is this shift going to happen? Meanwhile 1000's of people are going to be on the street because of Delta's greed and your shortsightedness. You may have not been privy to who was going to get the "gauntlet, but it doesn't take a genious to figure out 1000's are going to be negatively affected. Where is the unity, and how would you have like this while you were at your regional with nowhere to go? Seems you forgot your roots
I love how you accuse me of shortsightedness, when you don't even know how I voted. Nor are you recognizing the positive aspects of what's going on. Nobody at Comair cared enough to do anything when Delta was furloughing like crazy after BK. And before you scream I'm advocating an eye for an eye, I'm not. I'm simply making a point. Don't play the greed card or "lack of unity" when some Comair pilots are guilty of the same. What's happening sucks, & I'm not gloating.

Did you expect it happen instantly? In case you haven't noticed, the global economy kind of sucks right now. It's NOT all talk at this time. A recent SEC filing(you know, the ones that are illegal to falsify?) shows Delta's mainline fleet increase from 722 to 793 airplanes over the next 2.5 years. The first B717's come in August 2013. 16 will be delivered in 2013, 16 more in 2014, & the remaining ones in 2015. More MD90's are coming, as well as B737's. If the DC9's stay past 2013, hiring will likely take place next year. The 2013 block hour plan has not been released yet, so hiring for next year is still possible.

And as a mainline pilot, you too can be replaced. And probably will be. If the bottom line is dollars as you suggest, then there is a whole slew of young regional guys and some not even out of college who are drooling to get your position, and they will live with Mommy and Daddy just so they can do it. They will work for much less than you. Oh Mr. Mainline, how expensive you have become, we simply cannot compete anymore because we pay you too much to fly our planes. We need to find someone cheaper. We will file bankruptcy and then have your contract thrown out. A judge will allow it and boom, all of a sudden you become so replaceable. Keep eating those wafers.
Exactly. What Mr. Mainline doesn't understand is that these replaceable regional guys could out-compete him in just about every way. They will work longer hours, fly more legs, submit to a lower quality of life than he enjoys, sacrifice more time away from home, work under a much less desirable contract, and so much more for pennies on the dollar of what he is making. As we speak, there is some junior pilot somewhere on reserve being abused and flying more legs this week than Mr. Mainline will in the whole month. You're right, American is a joke right now and will be for a long time to come. Their real hurt hasn't even started to happen. But that could never happen to DAL. Not ever.

Why don't you Gents do some research, & tell me how many times AMR, DAL/NWA, CAL/UAL, & Us Air have filed BK. Do you think BK is just some magic button that management can push whenever they want? They can't just say "Hmmmmm....I think it's time to outsource 100 seat airplanes. We'd better file for BK". AMR was granted only 88 seats, & APA is back at the table. I bet they negotiate down to 76 seats. So where is the leverage to outsource 100+ seat aircraft?

You sound like you trust those guys. That's the shortedness I speak of. When they're done getting as much as they can out of the regionals, they'll come after you. That's the way big corporations are today. What do you think Delta will do when you guys are paid a lot more than American or united pilots? It's the cycle this industry is in right now, and you're naive to believe that you're safe. Furthermore, you don'tmake a convincing point when you say you don't advocate an eye for an eye when you follow it up by saying Comair pilots were guilty of the same.

Do me a favor, & quote where I said "I'm more safe then anyone else". In case you don't know, UAL is in contract negotiations. They'll use DAL wages as their base. They'll likely be paid more then DAL. SWA will be due up soon, as will Fed Ex & UPS. Us Air is still needing to negotiate new wages.

Positive things are starting to happen. And when did I say airlines don't abrogate contracts through BK? I didn't. I asked you to research how many times each Legacy has filed BK? There isn't an easy BK button.

I know this thread has drifted somewhat to say the least. But I also have heard that Delta isn't hiring through 2013. Is this just due to over staffing or that maybe a lot of the talk about the new contract isn't living up to snuff? Not flaming. Just an honest question.
