Pinnacle/Colgan Q400 partial gear up
#21
With this one, if I remember correctly, the mechanism that centers the nose gear on retraction failed and the nose gear stowed at an angle. Then when it came time to drop the nose gear, one of the tires hung on a piece of L angle extrusion that runs the length of the nose gear bay. Not sure if the Q400 has the same nose gear bay design, as that extrusion was part of a mod to prevent cracks from forming due to the sideloads on the nose gear during turning.

I am a mod and I put it here. It will likely stay here in the regional forum until it slows down. Once it slows down and there is some factual information to add I will put it in the safety forum.

As a suggestion, the forum software supports tags, a feature that is very much under-used IMO. If this thread gets more participation in the regional forum than it would in the safety forum, than lets leave it here! I would ask you guys to start looking at the tags feature and adding keywords. Years down the road if you ever want to easily find this thread you'd just have to search by keyword. "Safety" and "Dash" are two that come to mind.

One must respect the soldiers and sailors of the Soviet Union. They were a highly dedicated lot.
Being a sailor in the cold war, the Soviet Union was a hated enemy, but I had respect for those who defended their Mother Land. They may have been misguided and believed in a failing system, but those men and women were as dedicated to their homeland as I was. For that, I salute them.
And for anyone who would disparage the Soviet sailors, I would remind you of the history of the K-19.

Sorry for the drift.
