If that signing bonus is even true, how is that not a violation of the status quo any less than increasing hourly rates? I am no attorney, but it will be interesting to see how your union responds.

At least you guys know now that you have a nice, long lever to get contract negotiations finished with. The company is obviously VERY concerned about pilot recruitment if they're trying to come up with creative ways to get around actually negotiating a contract between trying to unilaterally increase the hourly wage, pay a signing bonus, and shut down your website. I hope you guys are able to take that lever and place it somewhere useful

brb, getting in line to apply for this job with every other debt-stricken SJS ERAU numb nuts. That will take $5,000 right off my $200,000 student loan!

Not serious, but be prepared for swarms of applicants with this type of mentality. Hope the union puts a stop to this.

And by the way, what the union at Republic has done up to this point has made me proud. Thanks for sticking up and getting the info out.
Help spread the word that even with a 5K dollar bonus you will make less at Republic than you will at some of the other airlines hiring during your first 8 months or so! The 5K doesn't make up for the contract and low pay on the first year. If you go elsewhere by year 2 most places are close to the top RAH pay on the FO side. But one would have to guess that unless Eagle dumps a bunch of pilots there aren't many guys sitting around with 1K hrs just waiting at the bits to go fly for a regional since they are struggling to fill classes.

If you mean you just applied at RAH I hope you are joking or being a wise arse. You have been on the forums enough to know what is going on. I wonder how the RAH guys feel that their ability to get a contract, though showing signs of working, is perhaps being impeded by those who can't wait?

I understand where you all are coming from, but being a new-hire does not step on anyone's toes....at least according to the union. If it is, then the union needs to change the statement below.

Now if the they're released to strike and the new-hires (or anyone) crosses the picket line, the eff 'em. They're scabs. Until then, new-hires are not to be looked down upon.

Whoever said that this is like a strike is wrong. It is or it isn't. Let's not water down the definitions.

This is an excerpt from RAH Contract NOW! | Teamsters Local 357

If you choose to come work as a pilot here, you will be welcomed by the existing pilot group, but the Union will have a much harder time if you do not have a good grasp of the way things really are.

True, I have been. I read a lot more than I post. A lot of places have my app right now and it would do me well, at the very least, to field any interview that comes my way so that when XJT finally (hopefully) gives me the green light I'll have sat through a few batteries before. I realize this practice might be frowned upon but it's every man for himself until I can be "welcomed by the pilot group" somewhere.

Gotta run, my student's starting the Cherokee incorrectly again...

Except RAH isn't on strike, thus the new hires aren't scabs...I hope your post was sarcastic

I agree, a new-hire doesn't step on anyone's toes and shouldn't be looked down upon until they cross the picket line.

I'd do it if I got paid $5K day 1 and could quit day 2 and not give the money back. That would be a good way to spend one of my vacation days this year.

However I have feeling I'd have to give the money back.......
