If AE is hurting that bad for pilots why won't they accept applications from people with internal reccomendations and who are typed on both the Saab and ATR? Maybe just having experience in those aircraft doesn't overcome my TT when they view my application? I don't know.... any ideas?

Also, as has been proven time and time again, lower time guys tend to (notice i said TEND TO, don't everyone jump on my back because their buddy got hired and made it through training at PNCL or Eagle or TSA with 500 hours) have more problems in training and on the line due to things like lack of maturity, experience with tough situations and decision-making. Example: we had a guy in our class who had a CRJ type but only 500TT/50ME who failed out of training at the very end. Rumor is he choked on his PC twice. That shows an inability to handle pressure in a clutch situation. The better run companies keep track of new hires during training and try to correlate their hiring practices with who is succeeding in training. Another example: XJT was hiring lower time guys without much recent instrument experience and was finding that they had a lower success rate in training. Rather than throw away money on interviews and training, they changed their interview and hiring practices to focus on applicants that historically have a better success rate. Of course, your mileage will vary. You can get "wonder kids" in there with 500 hours that can fly circles around the salty old guy with 5000 hours. One way airlines counter this is to hire a mix of guys, hedging their bets.

Their site still says 1000 minimum. AE is an FO mill, people who have high hopes, wich is most, will go for the faster upgrade. Unless they offer some great incentives, good luck filling those saabs and rjs. To add, about the only incentive they can give now is a flow through agreement with AA when they start hiring.

Guess it is up or out. Not even trying GJ, TSA, or Mesa. You think 10 months of not flying is a factor. It's not up; thats what happens when you wait.

We can all hope for a pilot shortage across all sectors of aviation. Supply and demand. This will only help our wallets. Airlines are finally charging more, and fuel has come down some...Here's hoping for a turn around!!

Hey boys and girls. There is hope. I think things are turning around. I know that we are short of pilots at UPS. The rumor is that they want to hire 500+ next year. If you are interested, go to upsjobs.com. Fill out the ap. and get a letter from a friend if you can. Best of luck to you all.

If they're short of pilots...how about raising pay?
