American Eagle Desparate for Pilots

bottom of the barrel maybe, but us going to fly RJ's is not whats ruining this industry. we are walking into an industry that was ruined by others long before us. i hate it when people try to blame us for the current problems and keep using stupid phrases like SJS. oh look that guy wants to build hours- he must have SJS. This guy wants to fly for this company over that - he must have SJS. This guy wants to earn $19 instead of $22 - he must have SJS.
bottom line is we all have to climb the ladder. we have to get quality hours, and we have to do it some way or another. eye on the prize, anyone who says regionals are a dead end isnt paying attention to whats going on in the majors right now. FedEx, UPS, Continental, Southwest - theyre gonna keep hiring for a while to come, and some others will follow as they continue to post profits and recall furloughs. And yes, they hire RJ guys, like crazy.

As a Reservist, Eagle doesn't seem too bad to me. I do recognize that having a Guard/Reserve job is not something all folks can lean on when dealing with regional jobs. I do recognize that if one didn't have an alternate source to accrue TPIC (i.e. Guard/Res job) in a timely fashion, Eagle wouldn't be at the top of my list. But there's a lot to be said about being able to work at one's domicile.
Regarding the assignment system, I do agree that it is not a good incentive to have to wait until training day 1 until one discovers what base/aircraft one will end up with. I would hate to quit on day one, but it wouldn't be because of SJS, as I would love to get the Saab out of DFW (my closest base). It's all about working close to domicile for me and I think that is a prime reason to want to work for Eagle. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to quit on day one if I didn't get my domicile. Commuting across the country is not a halfway decent reason to work for AE in my opinion, and I would expect almost everybody to direct their efforts towards being proactive about a timely plan to upgrading, which AE unfortunately is not exactly the ideal place for.

I guess this is true for this year. How many more pilots are they going to hire this year? And do they have classes in the holiday months?
