CFI to regional: typical stuff
#51
Hello, everyone. I've been reading the forum for a couple years but have never posted. Figured it's time to break the silence and present the issue that so many of you guys and gals have dealt with in the past.
I'm a flight instructor a 141 associated with a university in the Midwest, finishing my degree this May. I've got my apps in with several regionals and meet the mins for XJT, Trans States and ...Eagle. 700TT, 60ME, CFI, CFII, MEI. I've got several friends at Eagle and Pinnacle as well as XJT who went through the same program, served their time instructing, etc.
What advice do you have for someone in my shoes? I have not received any interview offers (probably because I'm not available until May ...graduation, blah blah bah, not to mention the low time) but hope to soon.
Any words of wisdom?

The first thing you need to do is finish your college degree. You cannot get hired at some major airlines without a college degree. The next thing you need to do is continue to build flight time. Regional airlines do require 100 ME. Try flying as much as you can from now until you graduate.
Put applications in at every regional airline. Before you know it, May will arrive and you need to have interviews lined up. Talk to different people to get an idea of what it is like to work for each company. Have you talked to a career counselor at your university? They usually have good contacts at the regional airlines.
Lastly, I would recommend attending a job fair. Take a look at the different companies who are hosting them and attend one. The recruiters who attend are the ones who make the decisions on who gets the interview. You are not a just a name on a resume. You have the opportunity to introduce yourself and show why you would be an asset to their company. The key to attending a job fair is making a connection with the recruiter.
