Default Regional Vacation Awards

How does your regional award master/yearly vacation? At SKYW the top guy can take as much as he has available before the next guy gets any and so on down the line. I have heard that other places the top guy gets a week then the next guy gets a week down to the bottom and then he top guy can take week # 2. Comments on how you like your system also appreciated. Thanks

It's done in rounds at Air Wisconsin. As in you only get 1 week of vacation awarded for the first round, then another week awarded in round 2, and so on. It's done that way to prevent exactly what you described where the top bidder gets every week of vacation he/she wants, and everybody else is left with trash by the time it gets to the bottom of the list. The most senior guys might not like it, but for guys towards the middle and bottom of the lists it's the best set up I can think of.

So if the #1 pilot wants 2 weeks in row off in the summer, you're saying he/she is only guaranteed the first week and may or may not get the second week? Never heard of that system before. I guess i would be one of the senior guys who wouldn't like it!!

Air Wisconsin and ExpressJet have vacation trip touching drops. You'd never really need two weeks in a row. See what just happened? Work rules people!

Pinnacle does it the same as Skywest where the senior guy gets all his picks before moving on down the list.

Comair - Senior guy gets all his picks. Then # 2 gets all his picks from what's left. Then #3, etc.

This is per seat and per base.

Unfortunately that's based on an archaic system and is headed the way of the dodo bird.

PBS is coming whether you like it or not. Instead of thumping your chest like a monkey about it, better start thinking how to preserve an equivalent amount of vacation with PBS.

The company wants PBS bad...make them pay for it. The challenge will be the senior lifers...since PBS will make things even better for the top 20% (at the expense of everyone else) they will try to get all the junior ducks to line up for the company.

Lets hope that it NEVER gets approved at Air Wisconsin. Most older guys here are against it. They hate bidding already and preferred when they used to call in and write there bids, they dont want to sign off on something new like PBS.

This is highly likely.

Instead of spouting off like an ignorant monkey, maybe you should educate yourself on the ASA PBS system and the vacation low/virtual credit option. It can be MORE lucrative than the XJT line bid/workrules that are in place. You see whats going on here? It's about work rules, NOT line bid vs. PBS.

So it's not nearly as easy as you state of being an archaic and outdated system. Again, educate yourself.

They want PBS bad, they ALSO want to get rid of the current way that the ASA PBS vacation system currently works.

Regardless, his point is valid.
