Just get your JAA tickets...
I would go fly in Europe, but my wife is from US, and we decided to stay there for a while.

I dont have the time and money doing the JAA training anyway after doing FAA training + living on CFI salary for almost 2 years...

Make up your mind. Do you know what you are talking about or not?

Default norwegian password

hey,

Aigght, if you have a norwegian passport it shouldn't be a problem. The permenent resident status will take care of working rights and to most places the regionals fly that requires a passport (bahamas, canada, mexico etc etc) you should be able to get in/out with your EU passport, on somekind of a similar to the U.S visa waiver program. Most of these places in latin america except European passports easily so I don't think it should pose a problem.

As for background checks, can't tell you much as I haven't gone down that avenue just yet.

If anybody starts asking questions just know your rights in terms of getting in and out of countries on the basis of holding an EU passport.

ha det bra!

that's great, you managed to get a green card. way ahead of other foreigners on that one. i had many classmates from other countries who came here to attend college and fly but cant get a job because of no work permit.

i personally haven't seen any airlines requiring citizenship. they usually state that they require you have "right to work" in the US. permanent residency of course means that you can live and work here. i'm 99% sure that the only flying job that explicitly requires citizenship is the military and maybe some other goverment agencies.

This is what it says on the Fedex website. FWIW

Please note that you must have the ability to obtain clearance from the United States Postal Service for handling or access to U.S. mail, which includes FBI fingerprint check, and candidate must have resided in the United States for the last five consecutive years (except military)

LAFF:

What makes you think I don't hold one already? I was born american thank you very much.

Also, love the way you say it.... 'just become a dual citizen' - when was the last time you ever had to check what's it like to go through the various processes involving the INS? Do you have any idea about the length of time such application takes? You don't just get a passport because you're "Mikey blue eyes".

Save us the idiotisem/ignorisem of such remarks, please.

I don't see the word "just" in LAFF's post. Therefore he didn't infer that the process was easy. He never claimed to have to go through naturlization or any other process for that matter. I believe he was just throwing out a suggestion that if taken would make getting hired easier, which was in fact the topic of this thread. Since S10an's wife is American I believe after two years he would have the option to obtain American citizenship, so it is feasible.

Smoke I was merely commenting on the fact that you told our threat starter that would be very difficult without giving any reason, then when others started to say different things you began agreeing with them. It doesn't seem like you have information that would qualify you to comment on the questions at hand. If you have a written company policy you'd like to share or something similiar, please share it.

I don't understand why people are resorting to name calling and such hostility.

Naturalized US citizen - 1987. I don't appreciate your comments. I know the paperwork involved - I've been thru it. I also have to produce it and put it down for my PPL. Had to produce even more for my security clearance for the AF...It takes time and following directions. Nothing to get upset / excited about...

My wife is a current Indian passport holder with a green card. We are waiting on her to get her US citizenship. Since she is not working for DoD / Fed gov like her hubby she will hold dual - citizenship. Its just a bit / lot more paperwork and time.

IMHO, if you want to live and work in the US - get the passport/citizenship. The law allows you to be a dual citizen - take advantage of that if you want. I would not want to tell people I've been in the US for 10+ years but don't want to be a citizen. I guess I see things differently...

Sincerely,
LAFF
