Default How bad is it at Eagle?

I've had it up to here with my commute. Eagle is the only large Regional with a BOS domicile. So, how bad is it over there? All I've ever heard is that no one is happy there, that the whole SkynAAzi thing is actually even worse than people make it out to be.
Are you happy at Eagle?
Does everyone still do time in SJU?
How long might it take for me to get based in BOS?
How long might I sit reserve there?
I know about the 7 year upgrade... that's one thing I don't care about right now. I just want to see my baby boy more often than just on the weekends.

As far as I know, mainline American are the Naazis, Eagle is the Hitler Youth.

About SJU, one of my buddies is flying for them down there- and he says it's not bad if you're willing to live there. You can actually live somewhat decently on FO pay.

Let me start off by saying please don't read some people's post's about eagle here on the lounge. There are some very disgruntled folks about eagle and it is not the airline's fault. They control their own destiny.

I was in SJU for 5 months and had a blast the whole time I was there... except for the commute. The class I was in was 3 ATR anyway.... I transfered out to MIA, and the flying was still great and a little easier on my commute. Lately there have been alot of FO's getting BOS but most cant afford to live there so they transfer out to ORD or DFW. The summer time usually has more erj classes sometimes all jet class. If you are in at least 25 or older you should be able to get an erj slot. While you are in training here at eagle you can bid whatever base you want. And there is a good possibility that if you dont get BOS on week one by the time you finish IOE you could very likely be based in boston. As far as rsv in boston the new hires in my erj class sat reserve for a month or two. Some allready have composite lines (hard line with 3-4days rsv for the month)

Also a little food for thought about upgrade times right now. Many are holding out for ERJ CA positions, therefore leaving junior positions on the SAAB. Another little tid bit that no one realizes is that we furghloughed after 9/11. So after 9/11 the airline didnt hire again until early 04' so we have no 02-03 hires at eagle.

I've been here since march 05' and I'm based at home now with 15 days off a month. And I sat a total of 4 months rsv while in SJU and MIA. Good luck!

I'm loving it! And I got BOS base (which I wanted) from day 1 of ground school. So it takes a while to upgrade. At this point, I'm happy to be flying a jet. The fact that 2-10 year F/Os have stayed with the company says a lot, I think. I'm not ready for all the responsiblities the captain has anyway. Can't imagine what it's like to be captain within 6 months like some other airlines are. Kinda scary in my opinion.

Or is it because they realize that if they jump to another regional, they'll have to go back to first year FO pay and ramen noodles again?

I really enjoyed my 4 years at Eagle, especially after tranferring to DFW and commuting 15 minutes to work. If it wouldn't have been for my pursuing 1000 turbine PIC I'd still be there. The crews were great, and I still have lots of friends from there I keep in touch with.

!
I've heard that upgrades for new hires in recent years will be much quicker than the 7-8 years often thought. Realistically, what kind of upgrade is someone looking at if hired, lets say within the last two years, or is hired in the next couple of years?

You're not going to upgrade as a newhire unless things really shake loose. Either AA's got to recall lots of their pilots and/or Eagle's got to get more equipment and thereby create more seats to upgrade into.

As a newhire you'd be betting that it won't take AA ANOTHER 7-8 years to recall their guys and get them off the Eagle seniority list. But, ya just never know....

LAX SF3 goes pretty junior last I heard, but good luck getting LAX ERJ. When I left it took about 3 years of seniority to even hold LAX ERJ.

Eagle's got great crews, great training, decent equipment and your paycheck never bounces. But if you're in it for an upgrade in the next few years go to SKYW or Mesa or any number of 135 outfits.

Eagle is a stable. Plain and simple. I have heard that we have been losing about 40 FO's a month to various carriers. Mainline Continental iapparently taking some of them. Upgrades take time unfortunately but if you like knowing that you have a job AE is a good place to be.
