If you were hired today at Eagle I would guess about 4-5 years for upgrade if things stay at the current rate without AA recalls or new aircraft growth. If either or both of those things happen then it could drop drastically.

Upgrade will not be 3-4 years at Eagle without significant growth aircraft. We have zero new airplanes on order, and I expect any we do order will first be used as replacements for the 135/140s. Fact is, Eagle is a mature Major airline without the benefit of significant attrition due to age 60 retirements. Only hiring at the other majors will drive upgrades, and that will take a long time. The top 800-1000 pilots will probably be very hesitant to give up over 10 years seniority to start at the bottom of a list now that pay/bennies/workrules at the legacy carriers have been decimated.

I was hired 2 years ago this month and honestly expect at least 5 more years to upgrade (and that assumes all flowbacks are gone in 3). I sure hope I'm way wrong.

Company emails, it's true. 10 pilots per month. Great news!

Default How bad at Eagle?

What are the chances of getting MIA as a base for a new-hire? I understand that SJU is the first stop? How long there before MIA? How long and where is the training? Thanks!

10 per month recalled. Say one in five answer the recall. At that rate it would take about four years to clear all 2500 on furlough. Hmmmm

Hit or miss. Unfortunately they cannot seem to figure out what will be available until the morning you show up for class, so you might end up in an all Embraer class and therefore unable to get to MIA until you upgrade. This is a major problem here and a big reason people don't want to come to Eagle (coupled, of course, with the long upgrade). If you get SJU it shouldn't take too long to transfer to MIA, that would be your best choice by far if you can't get MIA in class.

Training is in DFW for about 2 mos. Paid training, per diem and double occupancy hotel.

I've gotten apps in with several regionals, friends walked most in so their opinions are slightly biased. I have my 1000 hours PIC and now im debating between the issues of go to an airline like eagle and face huge upgrade times, or go to colgan, where upgrade times are quick. Additionally, turboprop vs turbofan, does it make a diff or is 121 time the big issue?

Some will tell you prop vs jet time doesn't matter, some will tell you that it does. I don't think anyone knows for sure. Just ask yourself, If you were on a major airline's hiring board and you had two applicants with the exact same resume but one guy had all jet time and one guy (or girl) had all turbo prop time which one would you choose?

Good point. Then ask yourself if you were on a major airline's hiring board and you had two applicants with the exact same resume but one guy had all SIC jet time and the other had all turbo prop time (including 1000 turbo prop PIC), which one would you choose?

You can argue this point both ways.
