Default Tis' the season for sick calls

It has not been announced yet for us, however, can an airline LEGALLY ask for a sick note without paying for you to go to the doctor?

Contracts are legally binding, so if it's in the contract...

Yes, this is usually also covered in your employee handbook or collective bargaining agreement.

I know it's a pain in the butt, but just go to a CVS MinuteClinic or something similar. The note only needs to say that you visited the office, not why or anything about your condition.

"A Chief Pilot or senior management official may require a pilot who is on sick leave to furnish a physician's statement verifiying the illness or injury. The cost of such verification will be handled in accordance with the Medical Plan."

Well guess that means they can require a note and I would have to pay for it.

Bummer

Dude minute clinic is a cheap easy way to get a doctors note (and all that without an appointment). Sure it takes a few minutes out of your day, but its a lot easier than trying to get into a Dr.'s office. Not to mention they provide many if not all of the same services if its things like cold/flu/allergies/etc. They also accept most insurance companies, so its worth the co-pay if its gonna save you from a fun carpet dance...

Outstanding. A great place to stop by on the way to the parents for Christmas.

Not sure about other places, but here at Eagle there has to be a serious suspicion of abuse before it would ever come to that. Even then they would just have you go to our AMR doctor's office at HQ.

On another note, I had a Skywest jumpseater the other day. Poor guy has been with them for 4 years, still on Reserve and has a 3rd circle of hell schedule that goes something like 6 on 2 off. Plus he commutes.

He said that this past year alone he has called in sick 36 times.

He is on reserve by choice... I have family members who haven't been there 4 years and don't have that type of schedule... in fact they are lineholders... somthing doesn't smell right here...

Maybe base/aircraft is a variable just like at any other airline.

Also 36 times in 1 year sounds suspicious too... Unless he has some chronic issue, I HIGHLY doubt he would still have a job with that many sick calls....
