Well when I was on reserve here at a XJT (which was only 3 months) I flew 76, 93 and 85 hours without sacrificing any days off (had a day off rolled ONCE and had it restored later in the month). Guess I was lucky but from talking to my friends that were on reserve at the same time and from looking through the reserve list, seems like those numbers were pretty average.

Better start learning Spanish now buddy, Mexico is a blast Flying can be tricky and is definitely more challenging than Cincinatti or Nashville but when your blasting out over the mountains as the sun is coming up over the gulf, you'll know its worth it. Those EWR guys who are afraid of Mexico are just babies.

Since it sounds like XJT and CHQ are fairly comperable in work rules and pay, I'd recommend you pick the Airline with the domicile you want to live in. For XJT your choice is EWR. Usually IAH after at least a few months. CHQ has more choices; IND, STL, DCA, off the top of my head, I know there are several others.

Commuting is stressful, time consuming, and unpleasant.

If you're flexible, move to wherever you get based. If you're not able to move, pick the easier commute. And don't be afraid to jump ship in 6 months for a better QOL.

"And you're not good enough for CAL." I feel like I'm in junior high again or at Express again. Grow up and make intelligent posts.

Mexico sucks, and you'd know that if you ever had better. I did 9 years at Express, so I'm qualified to say the overnights suck there. It's all relative. You can have the Express Mexico over nights, I'll take the CAL ones. I don't even do them at CAL anymore, I do Europe. My favorite beach over night at CAL is Aruba. Nice hotel with a topless beach. I'm not too good for Mexico. I love it there. I vacation there. I do not like the destinations XJT does (except Ixtapa). Have a nice career.

Considering that XJT will be furloughing soon, CHQ is a no brainer. My husband flies for Republic. They treat him good, and everybody(except for a whiney few who are ignorant) there is real happy. Brian Bedford is a wonderful CEO and will carry that company well into the 21st century and continue to bring much prosperity.
