Aren't you guys worried about the batteries running out and then not being able to hear any transmissions?
How often do you change the batteries? Or do you use rechargeables?

The status light on the headset will blink when only a few hours of battery remain. I check the light before each flight. If its steady, I know I have enough. If its blinking, I replace the battery (30 second process). I havent paid much attention but I think it ends up needing a new battery every ~2 week s with pretty heavy use.

Simple enough?

QC-15/Uflymike.
Lighter.
More versatile.
Cheaper.
Best on the market, imo.

So I guess the final question is, would you sell your Bose X to switch to the QC's?

Yes. I sold my Zulus (No different than the Bose) and I am very happy. As mentioned before, they have a TSOd version, it is lighter, it fits in the flight case easily, I don't notice any difference in noise level, it is more versatile, and it is cheaper.

As mentioned above I check the light before each leg and if it blinks I replace the battery right then. You can get up to 5 more hours while it is blinking, but why risk losing track of how much time is left? I go through about 2 batteries a month.

Also, one guy I was flying with had his traditional headset crap out on him during departure so he couldn't hear. It took him about 3 seconds to switch over to the aircraft speakers and use the hand mic.

If I buy the QC15 with the Ufly mike, do I need to get another cord to plug into the Mic/interphone jack? Or is that part of the Ufly kit?

Why did you sell your Zulu's? I am also in the market for a new headset, and there are a few things I don't like about the QC's (mainly the funny look and the fact that the boom can only be one the one side)....What about the Zulu' s didn't you like? Thanks!

I don't care how I look in the QC's because I can't see myself in the cockpit . I never had a problem with the boom being only on one side. The Zulu was a good headset, but it was overkill in in the Q400. Active noise canceling works fine in the Q and I don't need the additional passive noise reduction that adds bulk and weight. The Zulu would also not fit in my flight case unless I bent it and jammed it in which would damage it over time.

The Uflymike is essentially the cord and the microphone, so the answer is no.

Great customer service from the UFly mike people. I had an issue with my mini stereo cord. I called them and they are sending me a new cord in the mail.
