I went to the gate to jumpseat to ORD....at 5:15am. Gate agent asks if I have a listing. I say no. He shrugs his shoulders and says "You're gonna have to call the 800 number...but they're closed on the weekends." I ask what I should do. "I don't know...that's not my problem."
I head up to the ticket counter with the clock ticking...they're MORE than accomodating to list me for the flight.
I run back down to see Mr. Gate Agent. He sighs and checks me in and says "any open seat." I ended up snagging a First Class seat out to ORD that morning.
I've had that experience but I've also been up in ORD with NO issues listing at the gate.
Ignorance...

Did a walkup in BNA this morning with no issues, gate agent was more than happy to list me (this was prior to the 800 number opening for the day). Great crew to fly with (as was the SWA crew I was with prior to that, up front both times).

I've had even worse with them... Even with listing beforehand... Two weeks ago:
Me: Hi, I'd like to ch...
Agent: YOU'RE NOT GETTING ON THE FLIGHT
Me: Uh. What? I'd like to check in for the jumpseat.
Agent: I JUST TOLD YOU YOU'RE NOT GETTING ON
Me: Uh, can I list anyways and take my chances?
Agent: There's too many standbys already, go away.
(At that point I left and took southwest home).

What? you have to pay to sit in the back of a AE/AA flight? Even if you are jumpseating, and offline guys gets it for free?

I guess the only thing you can do is email the jumpseat coordinator everytime there is a problem. When something happens jot down times, names, flight numbers, ect. and be as detailed as you can. Hopefully, overtime this may change.
I really do appreciate the Captains that come up looking for jumpseaters. It makes a huge difference. Please captains for all airlines check the gate (or send the FO).
I do agree I really like United's system. That is extremely painless for both us and the gate agents. I had a very tight connection to get home in ORD because it took forever to get the valey bags. I ran to the United gate like 10 minutes before boarding. 30 seconds later, here is your seat hussle on. Awesome! Delta needs to change their system. It seems like the poor gate agents for Delta are writing new code when they list us.
Does Pinnacle have access to list on AA/AE jumpseat on-line? I am willing to call or list on-line, in fact I like doing it, given time. I just don't think that should be the only option.

AA/AE pilots should have a blacklist of sorts for all the gate agents who give pilots a hassle and if they ever try to non-rev they can have the favor returned. (capt. can deny boarding?, right) LOL! I have had problems with AA gate agents in ORD too. I just list every time now so I cant give them the satisfaction.
