I don't know if they wil be - but I'll take your word for it. I will also hope so. All I hope to convey is that we need NWA-style MEC/LEC militancy with this place. Anyone is welcome to be my rep through vote if that is their M.O.
As for the guys attacking Higney, your angst at him is very misplaced. He was an excellent rep. So are the DTW guys. So, DTW XJ - you are in good hands.

Regardless of the new reps being former XJ or 9E, they will need to be the voice for one pilot group. If I see that my rep is not fighting for the group has a whole, then next time elections roll around, they will not recieve my vote.

You mean the one that is now a full time flight instructor?
From what I understand, he was a Mem based pilot when he was nominated and won the election. Since he will be a phantom in DTW, nothing will happen.
He will remain the LEC rep in Mem.

Can't and shouldn't represent pilots in a base you aren't in. We had an ATL Chief Pilot who was on the DTW No Bid for two years. Made no sense.
I also wouldn't want an instructor "representing" a line pilot.
ALPA politics clearly alive and well.
Memphis pilots - stand up for yourselfs and request a rep to resign if he doesn't actually represent you.
If that doesn't happen I will call ALPA National myself to get an interpretation on representation with regards to phantom slots.

If we need to have an "instructor" council like some majors, fine. It will make sense when LOA 11 (I think that's the number) is negotiated (instructors) anyway. We could also use a NYC base for LGA (while it remains), JFK, and EWR. Representation restructuring will occur.
There is going to be heartburn over reps regardless (much like the Sli), but there needs to be a level of parity in the process. As it stands now many at 9E arent bothered by reps, but more bothered by the stance of being unable pick up extra flying.
Nobody should dictate how much we (as pilots) WANT to work other than the FAA (which is lobbied). The union's job should be to simply guard what the company can "impose".

Guys, there is literature that explains all of this.
This is from "ALPA Constitution and By-Laws -- ARTICLE III - LOCAL COUNCILS AND LOCAL EXECUTIVE COUNCILS -- Section 2 - LOCAL COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES AND OFFICERS"
"(1) Eligibility requirements for Local Council Representatives:
(a) In any Local Council with Captain members or composed solely of Instructors, any Active
member of that Local Council in Captain status or Instructor status at the time of nomination shall
be eligible for election as Captain or Instructor Representative.
(f) A change of status subsequent to nomination shall not preclude election to, assumption of, or
retention of office."
Spin your wheels boys, he's staying.
He lives in Memphis, will not be based in DTW because he's a full time flight instructor, and I doubt anyone at 9E is better for the job.
He will represent YOUR interests.
