Compass, What a ******** joke

The pay, the airplane, or the upgrade time?
For those who are out making ends meet in construction jobs, etc...this may be pretty inviting.

Sometimes it makes me sick to hear some people blast the hell out of 66K a year as a second year captain. I understand that the decline in pay is not a good thing, $18 an hour for flying 20 passengers is more than absurd. At some point though you have to come to the reality that 66K a year is more than most people in this country will ever make in their entire lives. Im not gonna sit here and say that I would be satisfied topping off at that kind of money, but give me a break. You could make the argument of how the responsibility of all the people behind you warrants compensation, but the reality of the situation says that we arent Bill Gates or anything of the sorts.
Im not saying we should ever settle for anything, you should always want to aim higher, but dont get on here and blast that money when its not a bad salary. If you are fiscally responsible that should be plenty of money to do most of the things you want to do with life, add onto that a second salary of the wifey's with the 50K teacher salary and all is well.
SAAB, you are just about to start a new job at XJet, not a bad gig for right now, certainly not the top but you are on your way. If you feel so strongly about the industry get out, simple as that, sounds ignorant as hell on my part but seriously.

Saab is relatively new to the industry. Making strong statements will not validate you spot in the industry.
As for the second year pay. Most of the NW pilots are not going to be second year. They have been acruing longevity while on furlough.(at least that is the way it works in most places)

Bla bla blah, the fact is that being a pilot is still a PROFESSIONAL job. In ranks with Doctors, Lawyers and Engineers. Not to mention the fact that it is a very TOUGH job because of stress and reduced quality of life. 66K, are you telling me that any captain or pilot for that matter should be making the same as a hippie high school teacher that gets 2 months vacation??

I dont think there's any question as to the professionalism of our job. Fact is every doctor and lawyer doesn't jump out of the gate making $100K/yr. Doctor's dedicate an unbelievable amount of their time AND "MONEY" to get out what they put in. There's a ton of lawyers out there they's days too just like there are a ton of pilot's, this is where supply and demand comes in.
The fact is that even a decent regional, if you can suck it up and leg it out for about 4 years you "should" be, and i stress should, able to make around $60K. Now get on with said regional at 23-25 years old and that means before 30 you're making a decent salary. At that age you shouldn't have a ton of overhead yet, possibly a sugar momma that can just about match what you make and life is grand.
Keep at it putting in the time as the years rack up and somewhere along the line get on with a decent major that will be if nothing else but a step up from said regional.
Maybe im just an optimist and feel that hard work and dedication pays off. Bottom line is, somehow someway things always work out.
