Default Colgan/Mesaba Training

Hi all,
Just got the firm offer for the May 2nd class down in Memphis. Question about training, approximately how long does it last from day 1 through the end of training and then the end of IOE? My apartment lease ends in the summer and I am trying to figure out if I need to move out beforehand or if I will be able to find time after training to move out then. Thanks!

usually around three months but it all depends where sim is and backup in training schedule, same goes for IOE. Welcome aboard!

I don't know what equipment you'll be in, but they'll put you in a hotel from start until you are done with IOE. However there can be a couple week wait between checkride and start of IOE on the Q, and they will have you check out of the hotel and send you home if you get delayed. You could also run into delays in the sim as it is scheduled up the wazoo, as mentioned above. It's kind of hit or miss. It'd be smart to have somewhere to stay for a couple weeks if you do hit a delay.

Yea I have a place to go if something gets held up so that is not the problem. The problem is all my stuff is currently in an apartment where the lease runs out second to last week of July. So I am guessing the smart thing would be to take care of it prior to training if it could potentially last 3 months?

Congratulations on getting hired. 3 months give or take a couple of weeks sounds about right. It's not always a rose garden around here but it's a pretty good place to work, and the training is top notch.

Take care of it before training. The last thing you need to worry about during training is your apartment. The less stuff you have on your plate when you go to training, the better. IMO

Get it done before you go. I've been hearing all kinds of stories from guys saying they've had at least a week or more off between ground and sim and then you'll start OE which could take a while.

I just got the offer for the May 2nd date as well. I have to get the ATP written done in the next 45 days. Thinking of doing one of those accelerated weekend courses and just getting it over with. Any suggestions?

Don't waste your money on accelerated programs. Use sheppard air.com online based prep costs 70bucks and is well worth every penny. study about 10days 2-3hrs and you'll be more than ready. They also guarantee 80% or higher on your test or money back!

Any test prep you buy make sure it is current. I work as a Lasergrade proctor and the FAA went and made changes to the FOI, ATP, and FE written exams without notice. I've seen a handful of people failing the FOI with 50%. I don't know how much the ATP has changed though. Here is the avweb article about it...

Failures Follow FAA Test Changes

I don't know if the FAA reverted the test back to their old form yet. Glad I took the ATP back in January.
