Government Shutdown = EAS Shutdown?
I realize EAS has the word essential in it and the essential functions of the government are going to continue operating if there is a shutdown, but how will a government shutdown effect EAS? Anybody know how that works? I don't know exactly where the EAS money comes from so I don't really know whether it will be temporarily de-funded or if it is receiving money from a separate spending authorization that is not effected by the shutdown. Somebody help me understand.

As far as I understand, the money for each city is already allocated, therefore a temporary shut down wouldn't affect anything. It would probably delay the bid process for any cities currently in deliberation, and if the shutdown lasted long enough, any contracts that expired would probably be suspended until this is resolved.
Short answer, probably no discernible effect. Air traffic control is a government function and that's certainly not going anywhere no matter how long this lasts.

Only "non-essential" functions of government will be affected by any shutdown...This certainly begs the question...If only "non-essential" functions are being affected then why is the government wasting our tax dollars on those programs????

I read an article somewhere a couple days ago talking about EAS and it said they are changing the rules so that many of the current EAS cities will not qualify. Also they said the funding is going to mostly be going away over the next several years as the budget tightens. I can't seem to find the article now but i'm sure if you look enough you will find it. There will probably be a lot more articles out soon too. I think many of our govt programs are going to see some large cuts to right size our spending habits.
