Question: I know we don't have union protection for the first year, are we still able to enlist their help on matters such as this?

Thanks though, I appreciate the advice. I'm not without perspective enough to know that a positive attitude is one of the first casualties when the novelty of "gee whiz I'm flying a big ol' airplane" wears off. I think the appropriate expectations make things like this easier to swallow.

I have many complaints with ALPA, but it is an organization that is made of fellow pilots who volunteer their time to improve (our limit the degradation of) our profession. Just because you are new does not mean they ignore your existence. Also, since Colgan is still new to ALPA and has a relatively junior pilot group, our reps still remember what it is like for new hires.

In the end, ALPA did not have to take any specific action for my pay problem, but just mentioning to key people at Colgan management that I informed them seemed to light a fire under their butts.

And to add to my previous list, scheduling called me to get me to fly 1 hour after the deadline for long call reserve.

But on the bright side. The majority of Q FA's are pretty attractive. Especially in IAH.

Guess I should've made the jump to IAH, because there seems to be less and less eye candy stumbling around the EWR crew room these days.

They all xfer'd to IAH.... Was there last week and they had a class of 30 22yr olds in training as new FA's. "Its like High School man, I get older but the chicks stay the same age", "Check ya later"

ya if you got IAH Q as a new hire your very much in luck, don't bid out unless you mean it, could be a very very long time before you would get it again. also just a heads up there are no bonus points at this company. doing stuff like answering your phone when your not obligated to or jumpseating when they forget to setup your deadheads, accepting schedule changes, not checking every single paycheck for errors. You won't believe me now and you will end up going above and beyond without reward and you will change your mind. It's all part of being a member of the Colgan family on a sidenote all of the pilots are great, most people aren't mad at Colgan management.... were just disappointed

Things like two 12hr/6 leg days with a minimum rest overnight in between, followed by a 14hr/6 leg day 3, all on a PM schedule to a minimum rest overnight to work the first flight in the morning out of Bumhole, WV on day 4 to have your calls to scheduling/their supervisors and ALPA fall on deaf ears when you try and discuss how safe it really is to put someone on this schedule (I mean its legal therefore its ok! Besides, they don't have anybody else...right). Lines and being a line holder not meaning anything, being treated like a reserve even with the contract, afterall, hey its just "reassigning" flying if its within your pairing...

Previous two post are good info. 1) Know your contract 2) Do not fly fatigued.
