Also, the ATP will have MORE requirements attached to it, not less, so in that sense, it will be harder to get.

Congress has made LAW that says the ATP is required, and the ATP requirement will be IN EFFECT before 1 Aug 2013. There is no grandfathering, and this 3 years period is the time given to the aviation organizations to adjust to the changes in the law/regulations.

Also, the new Rest/Duty/Flight rules will be in use prior to 1 Aug 2011, and will be a BIG change for Regionals and -121 supplemental organizations. For the majors, it won't be a big deal.

I know this has all been talked about before but the largest pilot Union in the world is making a case for lowering the hourly requirement. Buried in the details of their position, they made it very clear that they want the minimums lowered to 750 hours and class credit to count for the remaining 750 hours. The details are here:

The point to point thing you were referring to I believe is for 135 mins. that requires 500hours of XC time but does not specify distance. I often do touch and goes at other airports with students, mainly because ours gets too busy. Benefits us both!
Ok that rings a bell. I guess it was the 135 XC requirement I was thinking of. Also the 50nm distance traveled not including a landing sounds familiar. I guess I'm a little fuzzy from not dealing with that stuff for so many years. Thanks guys!

Yeah and of course this will be called a "victory" because its technically a "300% increase" in current commercial mins. However even in the binge times of pilot hiring very few applicants get on with 750 or lower. Yes, it happens every day, but the percent of the total is very very low. The average is probably, if I had to guess, right around 750 (or wherever the new mins end up at).

E-mail sent. Morons. It's quite clear - Tim Martens IS ALPA (which explains a great deal).

Keep in mind, the feds are also providing certain credit for your background. An example is if you came from a 141 training school, or have operated in a crew environment. This will help many of those who are not quite to the 1500 mark.
