etiquette while on buddy pass and on furlough
A friend gave me a buddy pass to travel tonight, and I was wondering if I should still poke my head in to say hi even though I am furloughed. Do you guys appreciate that or is it a waste of your time...

Nope. Sorry, but not necessary. You are not a uniformed crewmember using the jumpseat. You will be traveling as a non-rev. Take your seat in the back, and enjoy some drinks if you're in first.

The only time you should say hi, is if you're actually in uniform.
I still have Delta benefits, but work for American Eagle..and frequently travel on Delta (I live in ATL)...I almost always poke my head in just to say hi, as i've gotten weird looks before deplaning..because most guys assume that you were a jumpseater that should have said hi.
But I only do this when in uniform, and when it's not annoying (like when they load you after of first class in a 757 and you have to detour and screw up the boarding process).
I would take the other advice of those here, sit back..kick back a few free cold ones and enjoy the cheap ticket (if you actually make it anywhere on a buddy pass anymore )

You only poke your head up if you're an actual jumpseater, that was given a seat in the back. That's it in my opinion.
If you're non-revving, in uniform, you say hi to the flight attendant, cuz she'll count you as an able bodied passenger, that's it.
If you just got furloughed, and you're using a buddy pass, or if you quit aviation 20 years ago and now your cousin is a pilot and you're using his flight benefits, or if you have a Private Pilot License and bought a plane ticket, there's no reason to come up and say hi. It's pretty much not useful.
I just say this because I fly in uniform as a jumpseater and have been unloaded. You come up on mainline manifests as an ACM or OMC or whatever, and some guys get mad if you don't check in.

Buddy passes are like company non-revs as far as my company goes. No check in required. If you're even asking this question, you are clearly the respectful type non-rev our flight attendants love, enjoy the ride!
