That was about the most worthless 5 minutes I've had in my life in awhile... what they have just said, is the most insanely idiotic thing I have ever heard. At no point, in their rambling incoherent response were they even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this board is now dumber for having listened to it.

But it was "Breaking News" so it must have been important!

Almost all media is biased. They take an angle on a story that will get people's attention and run with, the hell with the truth. I don't really watch the news or read the newpapers because I know I'm never getting the full, acurate story. Put as much faith in the media as you put in the federal government. By the way, I didn't waste my time watching the story this thread started on. So pardon my ignorance if what I said is not correct.

This is one time where I can't fault the media. They interviewed real pilots who made some stupid remarks.

“People don’t understand why they can’t use their cell phones. Well, what can happen is 12 people will decide to call someone just before landing, and I can get a false reading on my instruments saying that we are higher than we really are.” -Jim Tilmon
Oh, really, explain how cellphones cause interference with a pitot/static system. He could have said "if someone receives or sends a call on a cellphone it can interfere with the magnets in our headsets giving off an annoying hum that could make us miss an important radio call."

And while problems with autopilot are rare, things do fail from time to time, according to Hiatt. "PA systems have problems, call buttons stick, computers can fail to a non-active mode," he says. And that, says Hiatt, is when those cornerstone "stick and rudder skills" come into play.
Yeah when a PA system fails, that's when you need good stick and rudder skills. This guy has not flown an Embraer. I think you could be drunk and track a localizer better than the ERJ's autopilot.

"During the overwhelming majority of takeoffs, you have to hand fly the aircraft,"
I'd like to see the underwhelming minority of takeoffs that are done with the autopilot.

Is this a bad thing? If it gets mainline jobs going again than, by all means, tell me im a crappy regional pilot.

I believe he was talking about the glideslope indication, not pitot static.

F-18's do automatic takeoffs from the carrier.

I am so glad there are people out there who have studied aviation for dozens of minutes to enlighten me.

And now, let me tell you about the dangers of brain surgery and why it must be banned.

CNN, gotta love em.

It was breaking news last week when that 747 in an air show on a pre determined route approved by the FAA was "too close" to the golden gate bridge. It was just awesome watching them "analyze" the video of said 747.

I also think CNN had someone say it may have been carb ice that caused the buffalo crash.

FOX news has hotter hosts anyway.
