Skywest running new hire classes in Aug & Sep
#31
Thanks for all the replies! This helps a lot.
I have just a few follow ups:
Do you pay for hotel during training?
Do you pay for uniforms?
What is the typical length (footprint) of training for the 120?
UAL furloughs already have travel from UAL, so I doubt they will use the UAL side, but they may utilize the Delta benefits, if it makes for an easier commute.

They pay for your hotel...
Portions of your uniform are paid for... you have to decide which jacket you want, and pay for that. (leather or traditional)
I'm not sure on the last one.

I haven't worked at OO for a few years, but for me, initial was double occupancy, but you could pay half to get a single room.
For upgrade, it was a private room.

For me, 26 days, on which you'd add a week for indoctrination. Then line training, which could be the day after, or weeks after.

All true. Except for a new hire single room as I recall. I requested to pay for half and my request was denied. What can I say, I was 37 years old at the time and I have paid my dues living with room mates from back in my University and Law School years. So I rented a corporate apartment on my own dime for the duration of training.
For example if your new hire class has 20 FO's (assuming all men), Skywest will be paying for 10 double occupancy rooms. Period. They will not pay for 10.5 rooms while a person springs for the other .5 if a room for themself. Essentially, whatever the request, it MUST be cost neutral to Skywest.
Female pilots, on the other hand will be given a single room if there is an odd number of them in the class. Not all of them get a single, just the odd one out. Obviously for liability purposes, they will not make the odd female out and the odd male out room together.
If there is an odd number of males in class, for some reason I want to say they make one group of three stay in a room. If you are the third person in this case, they may or may not allow that person to pay for half of another room. It has been so long I just don't remember in this case.
What I do know is if a new hire makes a stink about their hotel situation, your name will come to the attention of the training department in NOT necessarily a good way.
The whole goal of your first year is to study hard, pass your training, and stay low on the "radar". Easy to do. Just do it.
