Seems like all the majors want out of the regional business, with 1500 hours, new rest requirements and the economy all changing the game over the next few years. On top of that all the regionals are consolidating to form super regionals, which really are just major airlines that fly smaller planes. The ridiculous thing is they are flying for competing companies...can you imagine a coke-a-cola developer walking around in a Pepsi shirt?! Or a taco bell worker bringing in McDonalds for lunch at work! What a weird industry we have...

First off thanks for the kind (and wise) words. Sounds like besides a few neer-do-wells trolling the boards we're all going to get along nicely together.
As far as scope goes I think this will just go like Republic where the XJT planes will be kept on the separate certificate until the UA/CO merger is finished. They're beting on scope relief to at least what UA currently has so at that point there wont' be an issue with 50-seat scope limitations. Even is scope isn't relaxed ASA and SKW will just have to deal with that situation when it comes up.

Let's get to the heart of the matter... getting a new call-sign. I'm not big on Acey or Jetlink. Also, if I'm going to be forced to wear a hat, it better have red and white panels with an actual spinning prop on top.

I can only assume anyone on these boards seeing this in a negative light or trying to fight for the ' my company is buying yours , so i should be on top ' mentality is someone who's at the very bottom of our list and is looking out for their own- which is understandable. I, for one, welcome this opportunity and think that Xjt'ers are fantastic people and IF we do this right we can put ourselves at the forefront and gain a different track and carve out a niche and business model that is very productive !
I think the best thing we can do is work together, recognize that SLI is FAR out of our control, and work on a better contract for all.

When all the unnecessary costs are eliminated (fancy training centers, sims, middle management folks, etc.) XJT will turn profits. Their is a reason ASA acquired XJT. This will be an easy merger, and im sure it will be a simple relative seniority merger, as that is the most fair way to do it.

I don't blame the ASA pilots for being worried. ASA flies CRJ700/900 aircraft with commensurate pay and benefits. XJT is a completely 50 seat airline, and every "mainline partner" has very publicly stated that 50 seat RJs are a dying breed. I'm sure the XJT pilots will be looking to "take" those "big ass 900s" since they have 1000 more pilots than ASA. I'm shocked there aren't already a bunch of "stapler" comments on the various message boards.
I suspect this integration is going to get very ugly very quickly. the XJT pilot group vastly outnumbers ASA, and ASA has an extremely weak MEC. The way ALPA's merger policy is laid out, there's huge potential for the ASA pilots being steamrolled due to our weak MEC. I hope the ASA pilots like ERJ145s in EWR and CLE while XJT pilots get the 700/900s they used to fly. Sure, there will be fences... for a while. But they will eventually come down. I have little faith in our "union" to protect us.
I see no upside to this for the ASA pilots. The XJT pilots on the other hand just got a golden life boat. Congratulations, guys.

CASM:
XJT - 7.27 cents
ASA - 9.88
So technically XJT is way cheaper than ASA. It just so happens that CAL signed a deal that made XJT lose money no matter what. Makes you think that this was the plan all along since the first buyout attempt.

XJT pilots, welcome to the Acey family. My thoughts are as follows:
1) XJT pilots are a class act, and I'm thrilled to call you folks co-workers.
2) Your contract is better than ours in many regards, and its in our best interests to negotiate as much of your contract into a joint CBA as possible.
3) Seniority integration: no one should even worry about this because its going to an arbitrator. The pilot groups are essentially powerless.
4) We need to fight, and fight hard, to maintain the XJT scope and merge ALL THREE LISTS into one! This whipsaw crap needs to end, and we need to end it NOW! I have already been in touch with our MEC reps about the matter.
5) What is this merger going to do with current Continental scope? With XJT merging onto the ASA certificate, the joint company will be in violation as we have 52 jets on property with more than 50 seats. Yes, I realize Continental will cease to exist in the coming months, but in the meantime, their scope and CBA is still in effect.
6) Please keep your chin up. This is quite a shock to all of us, but you have the support of the Acey pilots. Feel free to PM me with any questions you may have, and I'll do my best to answer them.
All the best,
Ramen

-Our vacation clause is THE BEST in the entire industry. This will be the number one thing management wants to get rid of. PLEASE KEEP IT!!!
-When you are in Houston, you must walk down the hallway looking straight down. Do not waive to your fellow brother or sister - not even a head nod or a two finger sidearm waive. Just walk past them like they dont exist.
-When you are in Cleveland, it may look like no one is there because......well, no one really is. Just like the movie '28 Days Later' it is a ghost town filled with a handful of zombies that have nowhere else to go.
-When you are in Newark, and if you utilize Terminal A, do NOT block RA or RB. It is a one way entrance/exit. Call Ground for taxi instructions out, then notify ramp your leaving.
Not the entire cliff notes to our wonderful bases but something to get you guys started.
