Have you not learned that when things make sense in this industry, pretty much the exact opposite happens? If management wants a certain end result they typically dont care about the costs involved.
Every Boyd projection ever made has Eagle shrinking into oblivion. Here is my question: If all the ERJs are parked and most of the CRJs are contracted out, then who is going to provide feed for AA? Is AA going to not have any feed after bankruptcy? We are talking about 250ish Eagle aircraft in the Boyd analysis. I do not think that it is feasible to outsource even in 5 years that much capacity (equivalent of 50 a/c per year @ ~45 seat average). Even if AMR was to just hand over airplanes to other regionals, there is still time investment in getting operations running within the AA structure. And the other airlines would have to staff them, which is also lead time. Why on earth would AMR spend the last year investing in training 700 pilots to furlough them and hand over the operation to other carriers (not wholly-owned) who are not even in a position to operate.
Alot of the discussion hinges on scope, because if unlimited 70+ seat scope is the result, then it is much worse for Eagle, as all the <50 seat a/c become obsolete. If the 70+ seat scope is limited then 50 seat a/c may still have a viable part in the AA feed equation, and then the attrition may be fairly benign (135s and 140s).

Just speculation, I hope not because I'm part of those 700. Im somewhere in the 2600's.... so 3300 - 700 = 2600. So I'm close to that number.

We've gone back and forth discussing the situation at Eagle. We know that interviews have been cancelled and everyone that was hopeful for a class next year is now on a pool and are being told that it's only temporary and will be the first ones to be called once hiring continues. The jet transition courses have been cancelled as well but the training center continues to train new hires as we speculate furloughs. Did the Dec 5th class start today, and if it did what equipment was offered?

So we did start a class today, that's a good sign. No ATRs that's interesting since there is a rumor (just like most of the information floating around) that Eagle will furlough out of seniority and just flush the ATR guys out. Most of the Small ERJs are in NY, interesting that we have a class starting today with 20 guys heading in that direction.

You are absolutely correct, they could send everyone home this afternoon as well as they could liquidate the whole company. We don't know what is going to happen, we hear rumors. The facts are AMR is Bankrupt, creditors will get shafted and labor will feel the pain. We know that we suspended interviewing and hiring but at the schoolhouse the new hires continue training and we started a class today. We also know that we are suffering manning issues and we are on a demand trough between the Holiday season peaks, So please unless you have facts to contribute stop making stupid comments and spreading rumors.

I just saw the tittle on your post about stop asking if the class was cancelled. For the last few months, you had been asking allot of questions that were answered by those of us at Eagle, yea at times we gave you a hard time because you asked questions that had been answer previously but required you to do research. People outside of the school house didn't know if class was going to happen, you were one of the ones invited to the class and a few days ago you weren't sure if it was going to happen. So now you feel what is like to have the same question asked over and over, just this time none of us knew the answer until you showed up today and was greeted by the AE staff!!! Welcome aboard and hopefully you are here to stay!
