ASA/Vietnam/Mekong combined thread

We should rename this thread Contract Flying 101. Maybe they are subsidized by the government, maybe they are subsidized by a wealthy financier, maybe they are there to launder money. Who cares. As a contractor the long term health and viability of the airline are not your concern. You're only there to get paid and leave when your contract is up.

The market in Vietnam supports salaries of 10 to 12K to fly CRJ's, evidently the $500/year crowd is not their target market don't you think? A lot of folks in the west don't really understand the explosion of economic growth in S.E. Asia, they are expecting that the families reaching a household income of $5,000 USD/ month will double in the next decade, that represents the largest middle class increase the world has seen.

Hi!
I read that Mekong would get:
ASA furloughees
ASA line guys that wanted leave of absence
Skywest that wanted leave
off-the-street
So, no more furloughees, I assume ASA doesn't want anyone on leave of absence, as they almost have to hire now, and are there any Skywest guy that want to go? Will Skywest now want them to go on leave?
Assume there are some street guys that would want the job, but mostly those that are not working now, and will they have the currency required?
Who will fill the slots?
If it is the "normal" US guys going expat, they will want normal expat pay....

Hi!
WOW. All the slots were filled by guys online at ASA??? That does not make sense to me, unless they were FOs in the US and wanted to be capts, and the only way to do it was Vietnam.
They will sell TONS of tickets! It doesn't matter what the average wage is, because there are a LOT of people living in SE Asia, and a LOT of them have a LOT of money.
In The Democratic Republic Of The Congo, for example, I am 99% sure the average wage is less than $500. Probably $100-$200/year. A nice, large four bedroom apartment in downtown Kinshasa (the capital) STARTS at $7,000usd/month!
