What has happened to this thread? I have only read the first page and most "quotes" are missing their origin posts in the thread. It's hard to follow anything that anyone is talking about. Are the mediators deleting every other post and tearing this thread apart or have I had one too many beers?

I took the posts from the ASA/Mekong thread, thinking it would go in a slightly different direction.

So, I'll combine it back up. Hopefully, it'll make marginally more sense then

Right on. I consider myself moderately informed about the local and international industry but there's a lot of good conversation here which are new to me (some ASA stuff, international crj ops, and international opinions). Just can't piece them together to make sense of what's going on.

No one has been talking about staffing. ASA furloughees were going to fill most/all of these slots. Now, there are 0 furloughees, so who will fill these seats???

That was never the plan, only current 700 drivers (spare a couple of people) were selected for Mekong in order to reduce training costs. Part of the recall is to backfill the guys leaving for 'Nam, part is to help with attrition to Delta, part is to cover the new planes/Freedom flying we picked up for the fall/winter

Hi!

I read that Mekong would get:
ASA furloughees
ASA line guys that wanted leave of absence
Skywest that wanted leave
off-the-street

So, no more furloughees, I assume ASA doesn't want anyone on leave of absence, as they almost have to hire now, and are there any Skywest guy that want to go? Will Skywest now want them to go on leave?
Assume there are some street guys that would want the job, but mostly those that are not working now, and will they have the currency required?

Who will fill the slots?
If it is the "normal" US guys going expat, they will want normal expat pay....

How do they plan on selling tickets to a community that only makes $500 a year?

The average income per day where I fly is $1. Obviously, that's not who's flying on the planes.

Think of it more like US aviation 50 years ago. Joe Six Pack took the bus (or hitch hiked) to where he wanted to go. The "rich" folks flew.
