Anyone know why ALPA is not involved in the negotiations to develop a working agreement that covers this Asia flying?
I am surprised no one has asked about the local management, which in my opinion is the real people running the show and not the minority partner...

I was thinking along the lines of new contract language that would prohibit seniority list pilots from doing work apart from the carrier. Kinda like the opposite of scope.

Dude, I'm hurting from laughing. "They're tekin' rrr jobbbss!"
Man-o-live, I can sure tell who's walked the walk!
I went to the US Embassy here in (does it matter where?) to register as a Us citizen working in Dirdirkastan. They said I had to do it online. I said that I didn't have Internet access. They couldn't help me. Never made it past the "local" guards (never made it to a US Marine). Never did get registered. Not sure it even matters.

That's exactly right Tony. You can really tell the difference between posters who have been there and done it and those who haven't. You might as well be trying to explain a typical day on the moon cause they just don't understand. Okay I'll study some charts.. ALPA will have our back.. everything will be fine. You just can't argue with that kind of ignorance. Maybe my post was over the top, I was still a little cranky from jet lag when I wrote that. Or maybe it was the $3,500 that was missing from my paycheck this morning. No problem I'll just call my union rep and file a complaint.. oh yeah unions are against the law in this country.
There's nothing I can write here to convince people who think they know better, there will always be those who won't wise up until they get b!tch slapped by reality. An ALPA negotiated contract isn't going to protect you when you're far away from home in a foreign land on the other side of the world. To even suggest such a thing implies extreme ignorance. I'll leave it at that.

P.S. I know what some of these guys are thinking. "If these expats are this upset we must have stumbled on to something really good!" HA! Sure there could be some long term effects but the only ones who stand to get hurt in this deal is YOU. If you want to go overseas do it the right way, take a leave of absence or better yet stop clinging to that precious regional seniority number that keeps you enslaved and grow a pair and start typing up your resignation letter. That's what seperates the men from the boys and those who are serious about working overseas. Get in touch with one of the many reputable contract agencies recruiting CRJ pilots. I can urge you to take the moral high ground and not ruin it for other contract pilots but that is probably a waste of time. If you want to be a selfish pr!ck and go overseas for cheap go right ahead, but believe me when I say the only throat you will be cutting is your own.

Hi!
What will happen now that ALL the ASA guys have been recalled. Where will the pilots come from? Sounds sort of like Compass for NWA. By the time they got it up and running, there were no furloughed guys from NWA available to man the airline.

Those must have been tough times for you.
Also, you guys mean to tell me that ALPA, the largest pilot union in the US, isn't present in Vietnam? I don't believe it!
Atpcliff, I think there was one person selected who was on furlough. The rest are active pilots. Part of the reason people got recalled is because of the pilots headed to Vietnam. Worst case scenario is that ASA will have to hire, which we all know is bad for everybody!
