ASA/Vietnam/Mekong combined thread

Go ahead. Turn down a trip because you are feeling a little tired. That may happen once. The next time they will probably send you home. Min rest is the regs? That is what will be used. If you try the fatigued card you may be seen as someone who cannot manage their time or as someone who does not want the job. They can terminate the contract. Over here you talk to the chief pilot and the union backstops you so you don't lose your job. You think the Vietnamese are as forgiving?
Naivete. It makes the world so much more adventurous.

They need us to work the jobs under sub-par wages [edit: deleted] people trying to weigh the options/benefits whilst they try to [edit: compare the options]

I know of at least one furloughee who has been called to interview. So apparently they didn't get enough line FOs to apply?
love the comment on the new Q&A that furloughed pilots who go and get recalled will have the "option" to accept recall, but will then be put on LOA to "finish their contract".
I hate to say this guys, but with every bit of new info that comes out, ths looks more and more like Jerry's Sweatshop. If you go, you will be an indentured servant, and I don't believe it for one minute that your actions over there won't affect your employment over here. In other words, screw up or flip them off, and you may not have a job to come back to after all.

And the Mekong Airline Pilot Union will back you up when the Chief Pilot says, "adios". But, hey, that ASA job will be waiting for you, no matter what happens in Vietnam.
There is a reason that expat flying pays more. I'm confident that those that go will feel like they earned every penny when it's all over. And Jerry, Inc, would have made a nice, tidy profit on your labors.

I'm not talking about Air Mekong, I'm talking about you. You come on here and vent to us your schedule and how much they're working you. You can always call in fatigued, instead of continually taking reduced rest trips...

Has anyone on here been in the hotseat yet? I know the interview is going to be a basic "get to know you a little bit" type of deal, but it would be nice to know what questions are being asked.
Thanks.

Yea nothing on my main page, just ACS station bid news. Either way it doesn't matter, I believe they called everyone who were selected for an interview.
I know of one furloughed FO who was called, however, not sure if it's the same one mentioned above.
I would imagine this will justify a recall to replace the pilots that will accept the position.

I'm not venting about my schedule. I'm providing YOU with first hand experience about contract flying in a third world country in a CRJ-900. I'm going to suggest that calling in fatigued might not work out in your favor. You can believe otherwise, and if you ever do work abroad, you're welcome to call in fatigued as much as you want.
Your results may actually be different than what you want to believe now.

I probably wasn't very clear. Of course this contract is WAY low. Not just a bit. A lot.
I give a salute to Jerry Atkins for selling the "glamor" that costs him nothing, taking zero risk (pilots will be specifically not part of SkyWest, Inc), and getting a very nice profit over what other contractors pay their pilots / engineers.
There's no reason in my mind that this new model can't be delivered to every CRJ operator in the world.
