ASA/Vietnam/Mekong combined thread

This offer is ridiculous, and I predict they will have hundreds of applicants just from the ASA side. And if they don't, they'll open it up to SkyWest and get hundreds more. I predict most will be FOs chasing upgrade. It's more than they make now.
Thank you Jerry Atkin for once again starting a race to the bottom. You cornered the US Regional market, and now must expand your horizons.
Forget about Mesa. SkyWest and its subsidiaries are the world's cockroaches now.

ASA might get a few thrill seekers or furloughs to jump on this, but in the long run I suspect this will not be sustainable at the offered rate after the furloughs get recalled, the thrill seekers move on to other things, and the word gets out about the trade-offs. Living overseas is not for everyone.
The other factor here affecting compensation is experience level...most expat jobs require (and pay for) significant experience...some of the ASA furloughs might have less than 1000 hours total time. Air Mekong doesn't seem too concerned about that...I guess they are trusting ASA.

I don't think it's all that bad. Current expat compensation is what it is for a reason.

If they are particularly selective, they may not get enough takers. People who have thousands of hours in type probably also have wives, girlfriends, houses, kids, etc. Living overseas is not for everyone, and it is especially not for everyone's spouses.

Then only need 40 pilots! I bet that many have already applied!

And YES, the offer is pathetic. the biggest slap was them actually publishing a table comparing Air Mekong to ASA pay. They apparently think the average ASA Captain makes $124 an hour. And they also seem to think that making the same bottom line compensation as an ASA pilot is worth it.

again...$900 will get you in a questionable rental apartment in 'Nam. Maybe they expect you to find and live in a Saigon crash pad.

Ok, internet tough guy. Go ahead and look at my posting history, and see if you can figure out where I work and if I've actually seen the offer or not.

Yeah I agree, I think they are expecting to people that go to be younger and likely split villas or something. They say they will let your family come but if you have a family and a house it's unrealistic and your tax advantage isn't as much a single person. Like someone said earlier it's likely going to be the younger thrill seekers.
