I've been reading this thread (all three) with some interest and I want to clarify what appears to be some misconceptions. The union has been working extremely hard over the past 8 months to revamp the way our pilots bid upon and are awarded vacancies, and we've had a lot of success. While it is important to the Company to keep training costs down, the availability of any position is driven entirely by seniority, and any transition or upgrade will only have a one year seat lock (which can be waived by the company). The only prohibited moves are from CA to FO and from the Q CA to SF3 CA (still being worked on). It is possible that we can create a more open structure under our new contract, but this is what we have currently. Also, ALL positions are available to be bid upon and awarded prior to any new hire being allowed to bid for those positions. In fact, the final list of moves will be published tomorrow and the list of available new hire positions will be fixed for the next 5 months or so. Again, I'm only trying to clear up some misconceptions, I'm not trying to give any advice or opinion.

Thank you.
No, what you just described is EXACTLY what I am telling the interviewees. That if you get hired into a seat, you may be locked there for a year, maybe not. So if you wanted a Q FO position, but got the Saab, you should be ready to stay there for a year. Maybe you will, maybe you won't, but the company doesn't have to give you the transition. That's all I was trying to say.

brewpilot, I hadn't seen that in the awards, but that's interesting. Could this not be because the effective date of the award is after their year seat lock is up? Hard to say because the effective dates of these awards are as of yet a mystery to us. Maybe management is showing some preference to seniority after all. But, honestly, I'm more likely to blame it on an oversight than that.

It's spot on, we all know that. I am glad to see this company gaining more negative media coverage. Spread the word.

I wonder if all that was during the Pre-Pinacle Era. I have been with the company over a year and never experienced any of that.

the last minute of the interview is the Colgan I knew when I was there, dunno how much has changed. I do remember my Captain having to call the VP of ops to get a hotel room, and he told us the MHT hanger would suffice..........oh the memories

Wow, that stuff wouldn't fly these days! I don't know about the back country outstations though. Seems like the Beech 1900 folks from back in the day were treated like Part 135 freight dogs!

I don't see that happening today, either. I saw some of it "trying" to happen around the time I started 3 years ago, but in all the cases I saw, the captain won the disagreement without reprimand. It's really hard to argue with safety, and any captain worth his or her salt will do what's right, regardless of what the company says. (Within reason, of course.) After all, that's your job as a captain. If you're taking flights you don't feel are safe, that's not very "in command" now, is it?
