Sorry for the ignorance, but what exactly is the hiring pool? Does that mean that you've been interviewed but haven't received an offer or rejection letter? I applied via the SkyWest website and through AirplaneApps three months ago and have updated it a couple of times since, but haven't gotten any indication that they've even received my application.

Hiring pool means you have interviewed and gotten the job offer but don't have a class date. As of right now SkyWest doesn't have much of a pool. Pilots are getting class dates at the same time, or shortly after, they get the job offer. SkyWest did have a fairly large hiring pool for a while because they had hired a bunch of pilots then stopped running classes for a few years. Now that new hire classes are back in full swing there isn't much of a pool.

In your case there isn't much you can do, except just keep updating both as best as you can. Not sure which one they use for inviting people to interviews but during the interview they reference your AirlineApps application. Right now they seem to be weighing heavily on internal recommendations, so network and try and contact anyone you may know there.

And yet we're so short that we have less than a 9% rsv level.

In the last classes what have been the average times for the CFI types? Is 1000 competitive? Or do most have well above that number?

I think the competitive mins are around 1600tt

Word on the street is that there have been multiple failures. People failing out of groundschool, people failing out of sim, and I hear the hiring department is only hiring about 1 in 3 of the people they interview.

If 1 out of 3 are being selected, after even qualifying for the interview, and said failures are true, then the problem is within. They are hiring the wrong third; the selection process is faulty, or the training has a deficiency. Of course, to actually say this to the powers that be would be interpreted as insulting the organization, and this is not to be tolerated.

I think some of the failures have come from guys that sat in the pool for two years or so and didn't do much flying.

Years back, the newhire EMB failure rate was close to 10%. They absolutely will not go beyond 50 hours of IOE, as opposed to some other places out there.

[QUOTE=Utah;960178]I think some of the failures have come from guys that sat in the pool for two years or so and didn't do much flying.

I think the failures really depend on the individual as opposed to the training received. A new hire in my class was furloughed and had not flown for around 8 months prior to training and did fine. Another new hire did not pass groundschool, he also did not want to study with anyone. Training is just as tough as any other 121 carrier so i really think it is up to how much effort one wants to put into it.

If you have your boyfriend/girlfriend show up during your groundschool and stay with you (it happened) you will probably struggle...again individual choice.

Thanks for the clarification. I've got 1700+ hours TT, with a CL-65 type and SF340 SIC type and 121 experience with American Eagle (had to leave because of a family medical issue), so I'm scratching my head as to what it takes to get an interview. I haven't gotten a "no thank you" letter yet, so maybe it's the lack of an internal rec as you mentioned.

You're more than qualified, from what I've heard almost all who have interviewed had an internal rec.

Good luck.
