Attention Sky West Poolies..............
#241
I applied the other day, what does it take to get a call from Skywest these days? I have an internal recommendation, and a CL-65 SIC Type just shy of 500 hours experience on the CR7. I even have that fancy Regional Jets Standard program from ATP! haha. Any recommendations on grabbing their attention? I'm a west coast guy and I have always wanted to fly at Skywest. Will currency be an issue?
As I understand it currency’s not all that important although I could be wrong, I'm not in the hiring department. Just be able to fly an FTD and you'll get you currency during sim and IOE. I've flown with several new hires in the past that hadn't touched an a/c in over 6 months prior to being hired by SKW and I'm not talking about our recently hired UAL furloughees.
We need all of you..... And we need to upgrade soon. Life at SKW has no flexibility due to mass short staffing.

Just for your info we just awarded a CRJ and EMB upgrade class. The seniority is as follows.
-> CRJ upgrade class most JR pilot has a hire date of 05/26/05..........(FO -> CA)
-> CRJ transition class most JR pilot has a hire date of 10/01/07........(FO EMB -> FO CRJ)
-> EMB upgrade class most JR pilot has a hire date of 07/7/05...........(FO -> CA)
I have it from the grapevine that we will be running a new hire / upgrade class for the EMB and a transition / upgrade class for the RJ every month starting in January. The numbers I’ve heard vary but expect 10-20 new hires per month.
Good luck all.

In my defense I only *****ed on the days I was abused which was not "every single" day, more like every 3rd or 4th day. Reserve at Skywest sucks. Screwsupport suffers from an inability to reason with logic and a failure to realize that pilots on reserve are infact people too. I did spend a few days boarding or kayaking while on call. Never got on riverdale but I paddled Bridal Veil a lot while on reserve. Put my phone in a ziplock and then in my pocket. had service on the whole run. When you're not being used or abused reserve is not bad, but those times seem to be few and far between. So there you go, a little sunshine up your ass

Well with the recent movement you can likely kiss your RSV days goodbye for good. At least there is that and as Jr as the CRJ awards went for the Jan class you have a good chance of getting the Feb or Mar award but the caveat is the potential for more RSV.

How far above SKW mins you are doesn't matter as much as how many internal recs you have. Have them drop your name and resume into an email to CE, that will go a long way.

So are the 80 upgrades part of the initial 80 upgrades we were supposed to have when we hired the ual furloghees? Or were all those vacancies filled?
It sucks that most the transitions are being sent to Iah. Good luck with that guys.

BTW, I've worked at both. I was at ASA for 1 year, and left for SKW and have been here for nearly 3. Both companies are VERY similar, almost identical. The sick policy at SKW is 100000% better than ASA's though. That said, the grass isn't always greener. I'd just take the first available.
