Attention Sky West Poolies..............

A friend of mine in the pool just got this e-mail
July 26, 2010
Greetings!
As you are probably aware, a positive shift is beginning to happen in the industry with the announcement of Delta’s hiring plans as well as other changes. To say that this is good news, is indeed an understatment.
In an effort to ensure that we are prepared for any possible opportunity that may come our way, I would like to get an assessment from each of you. Please provide me with the following information, as well as any other information that you feel is pertinent:
· Recency of experience within the last six months to include the amount of flight hours and type of experience
· Availability date for possible ground school
· Any background information that you feel we need to be aware of
As you may or may not know, the typical footprint of new hire training events start with an EMB class and then followed by any necessary CRJ classes. Each of you were “ear-marked” for a particular aircraft type when you were interviewed. We assessed each individual and attempted to place you in the aircraft that we felt would promote the most success for you and for SkyWest. For now, that “re-assessment” will be accomplished with this correspondence.
We are excited about the possibilities that could come our way with this positive shift in the industry. If history repeats itself, and I have no doubt that it will, we will be given very little notice to react to any opportunity. So as I mentioned above, I would like to be as prepared as possible. You could help me out a great deal by responding to me as quickly as possible.
I look forward to speaking with each of you personally so please contact me specifically, via email or phone [edit:delete contact info]
Thanks all!
Camielle

True . . . but I believe Skywest is short on pilots right now. Through no request or effort to do so on my part my credit for my August pairings is 100.5 hours. (CA ORD - CRJ)
Before anybody gets upsets and lights their flame thrower. I did not request, 100.5 hours, I did not try to bid for 100.5 hours. It is what PBS gave me. It also gave me twelve days off as well. Long duty days.
Good luck to those in the pool! Be careful what you ask for in life, you just might get it.

That may be true but unemployment ran out and emergency unemployment hasn't kicked in yet. So I really want this job. I am not in the pool but maybe I will get lucky and get called for an interview. Any tips on how to get recognized?

The best tip I can think of on how to get recognized is to have one or more internal recommendations from a fellow pilot who has personal knowledge and experience flying with you. You should give them a PDF version of your most current resume so they can email it directly to a certain female person in the pilot recruiting department of Skywest.
Since this is a public board I don't feel comfortable giving her name. You probably already know who she is though. Her initials are C.E.
(If you get the interview, PAY FOR and get some FRASCA flight training device flight time. You would be surprised at how many candidates can't maintain situational awareness from looking at steam gauges and a jepp approach plate while flying a basic ILS on a FRASCA. Final note, don't forget to ask for the current wx BEFORE you cross the FAF inbound. If you don't have the required visibility prescribed for the approach you are flying, you CANNOT continue the approach. Ceiling is irrelevant. The interviewers will not ask this softball question in the oral, they will be looking for your knowledge, awareness and application of it in the sim evaluation)
At least this was good gouge as of 6 years ago when I interviewed!
Good luck!

I think that is a myth or not as bad as the stories say they are. Kinda like th "things" that go on in the san fran hotel.

I have talked with one of the ORD Chief FAs that had to send out a letter encouraging the FAs to exercise discretion on their overnight activities because of several STD outbreaks among crew members.
